Well, the next phase in this all-consuming hobby has begun! LOL. Thanks to everyone who contributes pictures of their wraps here on the forum as you were all inspirational in getting me started...especially miket for his prodding me into starting this phase of the journey... thanks...thanks a lot! I won't pretend to have been creative with this design at all. Since it was my first attempt, I watched a YouTube video and copied...I mean emulated their construction of the wrap. I can definitely see there's room for improvement. In places, I can see some slight damage to the wire from the pliers. The bail is slightly crooked. And, I didn't pinch the binding evenly in the bail...which I learned once you pinch it, don't try to unwrap it to make an improvement - which is really what created the problem there! LOL This is 20 gauge square copper wire with 21 gauge half-round for the binding. Holy Smokes this wire is SMALL! I had to use a magnifying glass a couple times to see which side was the flat side on the half-round...and had to use my reading glasses the whole time I was wrapping it! LOL I've posted the Stone Canyon Brecciated Jasper cab before, but it was the first oval cab I saw on the shelf that would work with the copper wire. Thanks for taking a gander and critiques and comments are always welcomed!

What a great first wrap! The only obvious thing I see is the bottom area is a little off, unless you planned that. Sounds like you learned a lot while doing it.

WOW! That's awesome. What really stands out for me are your neat bottom binding wires, the snugness of your overall fit and the way you secured your curls. Not too many people do that. I think it looks wonderful!!

what they said! That looks really nice Jason - 1000 percent better than my first few attempts. I particularly like the wrapped bail which stayed nice and tight after being folded over into position.

The only problem I see is that you set the bar very high for yourself!
I’m beginning to think you are a very quick learner and an excellent study.
So what’s next? Intarsia? Silversmithing? Rock carving? All of the above?

That's one fine firstie, fella! I found wrapping the jaws of your pliers with tape helps to cut down on the tool marks. Great job

You're a natural! Beautiful job on that stone, jasoninsd.
One of the things you can consider in the future if you are looking for stones that go with the copper is to patina the wire when you're finished with liver of sulfer. It smells like rotten eggs, but you will darken the wire and it will go with just about every stone then. I prefer the gel LOS. There are tons of videos on the process.

Seriously, fantastic job.
So much better than my first attempts and honestly as good as the stuff I'm doing currently... Nice work, my friend!

Wow! I'm not a wrapper, but that is impressive! Very impressive! To avoid plier marks, wrap the pliers with masking/painting tape.

Great job. I love the copper wire. Great choice with SCJ.
You're sure that's your first? That would give me hope.

What a great first wrap! The only obvious thing I see is the bottom area is a little off, unless you planned that. Sounds like you learned a lot while doing it. Thank you! Yep, you're right about the bottom. I tried to shift that over several times, but it kept wanting to move back to being slightly off-center. I got it better than when it first started, but it's still slightly off. It's off by a couple turns of the binding. Thanks Chuck! Thanks for tip on the tool marks and the link to the shot. I'll definitely be picking some of that up! WOW! That's awesome. What really stands out for me are your neat bottom binding wires, the snugness of your overall fit and the way you secured your curls. Not too many people do that. I think it looks wonderful!! Thanks Tela! I worked the wire for awhile to get that snug fit. I think the oval is one of the easier shapes to get that snug fit, so I'm curious how snug I'll be able to get some of the other shapes I've created. what they said! That looks really nice Jason - 1000 percent better than my first few attempts. I particularly like the wrapped bail which stayed nice and tight after being folded over into position. Thanks Tommy! The bail was a challenge with trying to get the curl to go how I wanted. I'm still learning (obviously LOL) what the wire will and won't do with regards to bends... Amazing job...it looks like you have been doing this for years... Thanks Rocket! In the time it took me to do this last night, it felt like I aged a couple years! LOL (Kidding, it was really fun to try this. ) The only problem I see is that you set the bar very high for yourself! I’m beginning to think you are a very quick learner and an excellent study. So what’s next? Intarsia? Silversmithing? Rock carving? All of the above? Thanks Brian! Apparently the "quick learner" is selective and age related! Growing up, my mother was constantly asking me "When are you going to learn?" LOL And no...I have no immediate plans for intarsia, smiting, or carving! (Note the caveat of "immediate" put in there! ) That's one fine firstie, fella! I found wrapping the jaws of your pliers with tape helps to cut down on the tool marks. Great job Thank you so much! Good tip on the tape...it'll be a nice change to put tape on tools rather than medical tape on my fingers after I've tried a new project! LOL Thank you very much! You're a natural! Beautiful job on that stone, jasoninsd . One of the things you can consider in the future if you are looking for stones that go with the copper is to patina the wire when you're finished with liver of sulfer. Thanks Robin! Thanks for letting me know about the liver of sulfur! I will definitely be doing that!!! Plus, my wife cooks Mexican food often enough, I could just plan on doing the liver of sulfer on those nights...that way the smell of the sulfer will just "blend in"! Seriously, fantastic job.
So much better than my first attempts and honestly as good as the stuff I'm doing currently... Nice work, my friend!
Thanks Mike!!! My wife loved the wrap when she saw it this morning, so she says she forgives you for your influence on this one! For your 1st one, you pretty much nailed it. Thanks Ali! I did break a nail when I was working this last night! I have no idea how! LOL Wow! I'm not a wrapper, but that is impressive! Very impressive! To avoid plier marks, wrap the pliers with masking/painting tape. THanks Pat! I was thinking of getting a set of nylon jaw pliers, but the tape is probably a cheaper solution! LOL Great job. I love the copper wire. Great choice with SCJ. You're sure that's your first? That would give me hope. Thanks Stephan! It was my first. I kept having to go back and forth from the kitchen table where I was working on it to the living room to watch the YouTube video. I'd pause the video, get that part done, then watch the next part of the video, and so on! LOL

From the looks of your piece, your first sentence could easily have begun with "I've been wrapping for several years now..."! Wonderful work, Jason.

I really appreciate the compliment. I have to say it really was fun to do last light...and like I told Mike in a PM, I think I only swore once, so I didn't think that was too bad! LOL

It's good not to peak too early. And you might want to put off smiting indefinitely. Folks don't take to kindly to that.
