Hello fellow rock people! I am currently building a 10" trim saw with a side grinder. I do have a smaller 6" trim saw (I think Lorotone??) and I am modelling it a bit like that one. So the main feature of the small saw I have is that it hinges on the back and lifts up. It lifts up out of the bath and allows you to take the bath out and clean it. It also allows you to clean the underneath and keep it dry. On the little saw as the table drops the arbor comes with and tightens the pulley and belt to the motor. So that is how this project started. I designed the saw in Fusion360 and am attaching some screen shots (front, side, top and isometric views). I am moving right along with this project. I have welded the frame and built most of the attachment parts. I am doing a Youtube video of the entire build, but it will be a while. I would love your input on this project. If you see anything that I have missed or something that you love on your trim saw that I could add?? I will be adding a X and Y slider assembly so that I can use it as a small slab saw too -- this will be a later project. for now I will put a table on the top and use it as a regular hand-pushing saw. I have added a grinder on the left hand side as this will be handy for grinding off the last bit of the rock that always seems to break off. Thank you for checking out my project and your input....Shane drive.google.com/file/d/1DLqXgJDfMtGvrabjMnoAvcBshoq4-ObQ/viewdrive.google.com/file/d/1y1OqKC2wmVqpqm5pUpsnikk-sEM24-y2/viewdrive.google.com/file/d/11zGXdxiVxyeF2VS2D79lT3PnytLlC89R/viewdrive.google.com/file/d/1i46qaHOnEopQ-5BkgqtU7cK8ftssBBRm/view

I am not sure how to add images??? I think I got it to work??? how do you add images. I drag and dropped them and they seemed to be there, only when I posted they disappeared. this posting of links and hopeful solution is what I could manage after 45 minutes of bashing my brain against this???

Intersting design. I like the flip up for cleaning idea. Keep us posted on the build. I would love to see it all the way through first cuts.

That is a solid looking design. I can't wait to see it materialize.

If I'm not mistaken, the flip up design of your 6" must be a Raytech. A very handy saw. Your own design seems to be well thought out. Big issues to consider are draining the saw table, controlling the splash, cleaning the accumulated grunged oil/water, and room to run through different (think larger) sized rough or stones. I wish I could plan like you do.

Hello again! Brian - thank you for the tutorial. I will add some pics here for a test..... standles - yes the flip up design seems like it will solve a few problems.... nik - thanks peruano - Yes! it is Raytech. I have built a previous saw and controlling the spray was quite a trick! I hope I get it right on this one but I may have to modify as I go... Thank you
Thank you for all the kind words and input.
Here are some pictures of my progress so far. (I hope this works!!) I have many more pics and video but I am going to make a Youtube video of the entire build once I am finished.

I like your furry helper! I have an orange tabby who also loves to help. He often jumps on my shoulders to get a better view.
The progress is looking great!

Hello people, I wanted to upload some pics of my progress. I have finished the saw side of things. now on the to do list is the grinder side. and I think I want to add a sliding vice for cutting slabs.
