Only limitation was no girdle and smooth unbroken curve all the way across the cab.
It just really sucks to try to continue a smooth curve around a corner.

Tommy , you didn’t picture the radiused edge wrapping all the way around to the back of the cab? That’s what I thought you had in mind. I think we're saying the same thing. Curved to the flat backside with no girdle. Hey Tommy : ) Current cab contest, EARTH and SKY, Wave Dolomite Cab 14 – side view shows what I had in mind.

So forgive my ignorance, but here's one I started last night that I may or may not use... Is this what I'm aiming for? Thanks.

Rockoonz - Tommy added the following note, allowing for any dome height, to the starter post for this contest.
---
(note: there is no minimum height on the dome as long as the continuous curve to the dome requirement is met)
---
So, no, a round wouldn't have to be perfectly hemispherical.
Good to see folks are thinkin' about this one. The experience of figuring out how to do one like this is what will pay off down the road.

I'm finding that the hardest part is looking at a long florescent light in the reflection and noticing all the imperfections in the dome!

Yeah, no matter what style cab it is, that's the best way to check the consistency of the profile, eh?
I asked a newer cutter recently if he could read the lettering on his light bulb yet.
Only because we've already gotten to the point where we can trade wisecracks. Otherwise he might have wanted to bash me with a rock... .

I'm excited to start one and see how it goes and I will show off progress photos if I remember in time. Excuses excuses but with our government leaders rulers finally starting to allow California to inch towards reopening I'm getting more work all of a sudden - while in the middle of a trying to finish the never-ending remodel/flooring project - I'm on the last room - the master bath trying to finish the plumbing on a new double-sink vanity

@msali thank you! I’ve never cut a stone without a distinct transition between the girdle and dome, and this was my first time cutting rutilated. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. NDK thanks! The dome and shape were a challenge, the large size helped to give me some room for error. You did amazing 👏 I've never done a cab like this either, but I got one done. Just need to clean the wax off it and I'll get some pictures posted

@jadedvision great job on that stone! Not an easy shape and I love the rutilated quartz.

Way to go, MsAli. Now, when you want to do another - just for the fun of it - you could do one with the bands "stacked".
