Ok, here's my entry. Freeformed and dremeled, polished in the vibe. A different shape than the others and I'm not quite sure I got the whole continuous curve to the dome requirement met- if not please let me know and I'll withdraw my entry! I forgot to take a before pic but this is what I ended up with...
***Edit- adding one more pic, outside in natural light.

In my understanding, the continuous curve does need to be at the same slope. That would be nearly impossible, except for relatively small circles. A French curve is continuous.

Wow. With a Dremel.
That's a skill level way beyond anything I could do. Maybe if I clamped the Dremel down and used it like a lathe, but I've never tried it.
Looks like you got the bevel around the bottom to keep it from chipping and accomodate a solder joint if used in a bezel settting. The radius of the curves can change, just not abruptly so it makes more of an angle than a curve. Like Tommy said in the opening post, to avoid entries that just have the shoulders rounded.

Thanks Vince. I still don't clamp it down, rock in left hand and dremel in right. 'Course I also dremel my fingers and drop some stones.

A wise man ( gemfeller) once told me to dop a stone I was carving to make it easier ....

Nice job miket - I'm befuddled on how you get that done with a dremel. I think I have mine narrowed down to five stones... now all I have to do is man-up and try lol.

I do them with lots of prayers and patience- and a few expletives! These contests are fun, if only just seeing what others come up with. No rush, you still have 2 weeks!

Gorgeous stone, stephan! Everyone seems to be conquering this challenge rather well, even though it's out of most folks' wheelhouse. Kudos to everyone so far!
