This nice chunk of Elm Roots from the Stinking Water mountaians has been sitting out by my shop for a number of years getting bleached out. It was rather dark when cut! Looks like it is time to get back to work on it and do some polishing!

Man oh man that's gorgeous! What's the approximate size of this beauty?

Bob, that's a real beauty and I'd say it's worthy of a trip on the flat lap.
If we were able to carry the love and tolerance shown here into the world as a whole and get anyone to follow the example set, who knows what could be born from that? Stonemon RIP

Iforgot to measure it but I would say it is 10 inches or across the face and probably 6 inches tall.

That's a nice sized piece. I love the patterns in that one...and looks to be a "split" trunk. (Not the correct vernacular there...but you know what I mean! LOL)

If you have ever dug up a tree, you would have seen sections of roots like this. If I was younger I would go back and dig some more of it out. We left some of it in the hole!

Beautiful. Bleaching by treating it with something, or just by exposure to light and air?
In this case it just got left out in the sun for a few years and forgot about! Household bleach will work on some materials also.
Cool. When I was thinking chemicals, I thought more along the lines of acid. The power of the sun (especially combined with CRS) is not to be underestimated.

woodman - Thanks for posting those! Those are both great vids - and the wood is amazingly beautiful!

Thanks for posting those, woodman ! I'm glad it was a video because I was not expecting that level of polish on that video you reposted. My socks have officially been blown off by that one.

A good sunny day and a video will really show off a good polish job. Hard to show with a still photo!

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
You know, some folks only like the fancy colored pet woods but I'm a big fan of pet wood that looks like actual wood. I like seeing the structures so well replaced by silica that identification is possible. Had the chance to visit the Museum at Ginko Pet Forest in Washington state years ago and they had the most interesting collection of identified wood slabs I've ever seen. I guess I like labels cause that I found really exciting. Great post!
