Bob, that's a stunner! I'm going to show this to my wife and let her know just how big it is...that way maybe she won't be so upset with all the "small" rocks I have laying around! LOL I failed to mention how big it is! It is about 12 x 8 inches across the polished face and about 7 inches long. When I go it home and cleaned up I did not have the heart to slab it up and figured it would make a much better specium the way it was so I just contoured polished one end of it. I dug it at Stinking Water pet wood area a few years back. I do think it was a section of a limb and not a tree trunk. It was laying horizonal in the lahar flow in an area where there were upright tree trunks. Good memories digging there but I will not go back, too hard on this old body!! It was Oak by the way. Mostly likely White Oak.

It looked like it had a contoured polish on it. I really like that! You could always lead "day trips" out there for newbie type hounders...and take some of the finds as "payment"!

I BROKE IT!!!CRY CRY! I had to move it and thought I would take it out and lay it on the grass to get some photo's, but I was not gentle enough and flopped it down too hard.. Repairable but I would have rather not to have broken it! Oak Root ball. 22 by 16 inches 2 inches thick.

Drilled holes in each piece and joined with dowels...or maybe like a biscuit joiner?

Super glue works also but I like the epoxy better. Part of where it broke was an old crack I did not see or treat with super glue before. lost a couple of small chips but it will come out pretty good.

It's amazing how strong that epoxy is! I know that putting together the slate on pool tables, you can put a piece of an index card between the pieces of slate, then douse the index card with super glue. Once it dries is will be strong enough to hold those two pieces of slate from shifting at all.

Bob, would it be practical to glue some kind of a rigid backer onto the backside, like carbon fiber, perhaps?

It's beautiful nonetheless. Glad you'll be able to fix it after all the work you already put into it.

Bob, do you use your drag saw to cut most of these big ones?

We too three loose pieces off of the top of a vertical log and reburied. Maybe someday some one will find it but I have my doubts.
