Stopped by Yesterday to see a friend and he gave me a bucket of limbs from the blue forest/Eden valley to play with.
That brown crust on the outer bottom half is petrified algae that had encased the limb. We find a lot of that in the material from that area, which by the way is near where I grew up.
If we were able to carry the love and tolerance shown here into the world as a whole and get anyone to follow the example set, who knows what could be born from that? Stonemon RIP
This rather large chunk of Stinking Water elm resides in my shop. Can't figure out a place for it in the houses!! Meant to give it to a niece last month, but let her get away before I remembered to load it in her rig!
woodman Bob, you always seem to identify your pet wood. Do you use a reference book to help with this or is it from your expertise on the subject?

To start with, Stinking Water wood is just about the easiest to ID. Yes I use several but the best is "Identifying wood by R Bruce Hoadley" The book is about modern day wood but for the most part thee cell structure has not changed all that much. I have friends that know more than I that i fall back on from time to time.

That is awesome! How did you cut it up? 36 inch saw? That's a masterpiece. Are you going to make a table out of it? Look in the upper left of photo, drag saw. Probably go on a wall.
Hey y'all, little early with this one. wanted to post this for a month of sundays! Hampton Butte area. Please correct me if I got this wrong, pretty sure it's pet replaced by various materials... let me know experts! I appreciate y'all!
Was out at hampton butte Friday and got a few small pieces, nothing to write home about. also stumbled across a large pine, see photo, in The post area. Also found a few small pieces of Sycamore that i will be working up shortly!
This one is about 30 inches in diameter. needless to say, it is still there!
