So I was looking at the cool shapes (Geckos, birds, dolphins, turtles, etc) that some are making and wondered if ya'll had any input on the ring saw versus bandsaw questions.
I know a trim saw can do alot for more simplistic shapes and I even saw Michigan Rocks doing turtles and Christmas Trees. However for the more complicated shapes I figured the ring or band saw should be more suited.
Your thoughts?

A ring saw for more complicated shapes, I would think but be aware that the blades for the ring saws are pretty thick.

Ring saws are made for cutting glass not stone The blades go bad fast cutting stone But when they no longer cut stone they will cut Sheet metal

Had a ring saw with a blade made for rocks. Let's say now I no longer have it. I figured it to someone I didn't like so much. (Kidding) It would work ok but terribly slow and as manofglass said the blade wear quickly and a lot of parts to keep it running.

Why no I had not seen that one. I don't know how I misssed it. I seems he is not only cutting with the blade but using the edge as a grinder for some parts. I would have figured that would bend the blade especially how thin that one is. I guess it is all mater of degrees of pressure and knowing how far you can push the equipment before something breaks. Thanks for the link.

Thanks for info toiv0 and manofglass I knew they originated in the glass industry but saw a few vids where folks were using them for rocks as well. I also saw where the bandsaws seemed to be the aquarium industry cutting up coral. I'm definitely going to try some stuff with my trim saw first and worry about this when I can't do what I need to. After watching the deer head video hummingbirdstones posted I don't think a dolphin will be that hard. Thanks everyone for the input. Steven
