You’ve heard the expression, “I can resist anything but temptation?” Well, I was trying to be disciplined and responsible by finishing up my current tumbles before buying more rough. One minute I was browsing on Rockshed and the next I had 10 pounds of this gorgeous stuff headed my way! 🤣🤣🤣

I should have that phrase stamped on my wallet. My wife would probably suggest I never look on the internet again.
I can see why you were tempted. And unable to resist! Besides, another great phrase in these situations is “variety is the spice of life.”

That's pretty stuff but I believe in having our next few (dozen) moves lined up. Part of the fun for me is thinking I know what we are going to run next. More often than not it changes as we survey what we have on hand. Can never have too many choices, keep stockpiling!

Besides, it’s not like they have a shelf life, right?🤣

LOL! SO I'm down in my shop this evening and looking at my rough bucket (I have a old Kitty litter pan under my saw for tumbling rough)and thinking that it is looking kinda empty (probably only 10 lbs in there). I have been sorting through my slab boxes and weeding out stuff that I'm never going to cab and tossing it into the tumble rough pan. I got to thinking that maybe I should take a gander at the Rock Shed and fill the pan up (it holds about 50 Lbs and at one time was full!) I said something to the wife about getting some tumbling rough. Yes you know the look I got. She went down to the shop and pointed at the 16 medium flat rate boxes full of rock, put her hands on her hips, and stated in NO uncertain terms that I had better "work" my way through "all this damn rock" before I even mention rocks again. Oh well.

I love the justifications we "try" to iterate to ourselves! LOL
I can't tell you how many times I've just been "window shopping" online and some kind of rough jumps into my cart...and "somehow" gets purchased. It's gotta be a virus on my laptop - that's only active when the wife isn't looking...it's really weird! LOL

Wife and I made a deal. We have a rewards card and if I can keep the spending down- I can use the rewards to get a new tumbler (going for a Model B or a Lot-O). So I guess I just gotta be patient.

"...I was trying to be disciplined and responsible by finishing up my current tumbles before buying more rough..." story of my life from a fellow addict! I've taken to only buying late at night when my wife is too sleepy to see what I'm doing on my laptop.
The material in that first photo looks very high quality to me.

Bob, I’m more likely to make purchases at night too. Maybe it’s when I’m more likely to have some quiet time for myself or just because I’m tired and a little loopy🤣 Thanks to all my rocktumblinghobby friends I’ve decided to forsake the whole “disciplined and responsible” approach to rock buying and offered absolutely no resistance to purchasing a batch of red lightening agate last night!🤣

Alcoholics Anonymous has certain mantras I've read. Boy, could we come up with some doozies for Tumblers Anonymous. Last week I returned from a collecting trip to collect more chert in western Oklahoma. When my wife saw the filthy, muddy pile in the garage I knew what she was going say. "Wǒ de tiān a!" in Mandarin, which means "Oh my God!" Then "Why, when you have so many rocks already!" Guilty as charged, and I have no good reply and she knows it but she loves me anyway.
I have thousands of pounds of tumbling material already, but I love going out into the field. In a few weeks, I'll on the shores of Lake Superior collecting more. Sick sick sick. Better than any shot of alcohol for me.

I love this forum, I have never seen 'Red Tiger Eye'. Now that I am learning how to make my own cabs, I keep thinking slabs over tumbling rough.

The red tiger eye (aka Hawk's Eye), from what I have studied, is the gold type that has been heat treated, either naturally or artificially. Maybe that's why it seems brittle and sometimes with voids and I've had very bad luck with it. The blue (aka Bull's Eye or Ox Eye) apparently has naturally occurring forms, as well as some that are the result of chemical treatment. I finally have one piece of it that seems to be coming through decently in 600 now.

There's actually more to it than that. Answer to a question posed on the Ganoskin Forum - There are more answers to be found HERE

A few pieces batches I have purchased online have had some golden with some bluish regions on the golden. Like spilled dye. Whether was dye or natural, either way those pieces were very ugly. It certainly surprised me some years back when I discovered it was a transformed asbestos, but then again I handled some pieces of raw asbestos long ago and there was a resemblance to some of the parallel fibrous parts.
