Fantastic rescues all around Stephan! Of course I love the Teepee Canyon...especially those small white specks throughout the fortifications! I really love that Prairie Agate! I can't believe I parted with that! LOL - Just teasing! I really like those subtle "pastel-like" colors in that cab! Thanks. Yeah, those speckles speak to me too. Hard to improve on killer fortifications, but fortifications with speckles will do it. The Prairies have got me. I was also working one of they gray-toned ones, but it fell off the dop.

I got four done (Prairie agate not photographed yet). Six came off the dop (including the Teepee, which I finished anyway). I wonder if I got a bad batch of superglue. First up, TeePee and Botswana from jasoninsd :The TeePee is a free-hand teardrop, made after working around the fractures in the matrix: DSC_0671_TeePee Canyon free-hand teardrop by Stephan T., on Flickr The Botswana is a freehand pentagon. I decided to forego symmetry at the top in order to follow the line of the fortifications. You can see a few scratches at about 1:00 o'clock, but I honestly can't see them with the naked eye (or even glasses) in person. Cameras are brutal critics. An Opti-visor is on the list of needed items. DSC_0665_Botswana agate freeform by Stephan T., on Flickr Next, Laguna Lace from holajonathan :I was sweating the hematite vein, hoping it to hold together -- I really wanted it in there. DSC_0657_Laguna lace tongue by Stephan T., on Flickr Dopping victims include some Prairie agate, Cheetah agate, Laguna lace, jade... (none died or were injured.. the just had a hard landing against the back of the Genie's splash guard, after becoming briefly airborne).

Very nice, stephan! I still like freeform cabs, (if and when I ever get back to cabbing again). Can't pick a favorite...

stephan - That Teepee looks great! I really do think Teepee Canyon Agate is some of the most "fun" material I've found to work. It always seems to polish up amazingly well. How're you liking working the Botswana? Is it as much of a PITA to grind as that Flor de Durazno? LOL miket - What's with the "if" you get back to cabbing again...?

Lovin' the TeePee Canyon, especially since this one has both the yellow and the lavender. Much harder (and subsequently, better-polishing) matrix than you would expect from something limestone-based. I like Botswana, but even the coarse wheel was complaining. Right up there with the Flor. It took nearly 45 minutes to shape on the 80 (which is probably now closer to 100, ). For this stuff, I can definitely see the benefits of having a 60 grit bull wheel. But, man, does it polish. I probably could have stopped at 3000. I think I completely finished breaking in the 14,000 spin-on. I was trying to ignore Mike's "if." I figured it was just reverse German (where "wenn" means if -- which can get a little disconcerting to non-German speakers, sometimes, when my parents lapse into Gerlish and talk about "when the plane [that they are about to board] goes down").

stephan - I forgot to say...I had SEVERAL cabs fly off the dop this week (none were lost - figuratively or literally! LOL). I even mentioned to my wife it must be a "bad batch" of super glue!

Okay, that’s weird. Global cyanoacrylate shortage? LOL. Seriously, though, I’ll go back to Gorilla’s gel version. I’d picked up a tube of Scotch brand for convenience while at Target, which is kind of ironic, given how the brand got its name (an ethnic slur — “the boss got Scotch [meaning “cheap”] with the adhesive”).

Never had any problems with their products that I can’t trace back to myself (like impatience — but that wasn’t the issue with any that flew this past weekend: all had cured anywhere from 3-10 days).

I can start working them after two days curing time with Gorilla's...and haven't had a problem. The only time I had an issue with Gorilla's was when I tried to work it after only one day curing...thus the two day wait period now. LOL

LOL The only other problem has occurred when not removing enough cutting oil, but you cut with water, and anything cut with oil gets a bath with dish soap and hot water, or acetone if it feels greasy.

Pretty cabs, stephan! Hard to pick a favorite -- I really like them all. Can't help but maybe love the Teepee a little more than the others. Teepees have the best fortification patterns for framing in a cab.
I have on occasion dopped a stone with super glue, but I used an accelerator and was cabbing in seconds.

Do you have a specific kind of accelerator you use/prefer!

This is the one I have. I believe it came in a kit with the 3 different versions of Hot Stuff. It's the only one I've used, so I don't know how it compares to the others out there. All I can say is that it works.

All I can say is that it works. Thank you very much for looking that up. I remember seeing a video on a guy stabilizing some cabs. He basically used super glue with an accelerator. He mentioned to keep your hands away from it as it would freeze them. So, I was wondering if the accelerator was kind of like a pressurized "dry ice" type principle... I will admit...I did try and use a can of air...turned upside down - which comes out freezing...to try and set the super glue. It didn't really have the desired effect...so I'm assuming there's more to it than just the "cold" factor. LOL

Thanks, Robin! If I play with accelerator, I'll make sure I wear gloves, so that my fingers don't become the dop sticks. Given that I really only have time to cab once a week, planning ahead shouldn't be a problem most of the time, but sometimes there is that ONE undopped preform that suddenly becomes a favorite and makes waiting another week difficult. The TeePees really do seem to be a favorite, and i think it's partially due to the patterns, and partly due to the fact that our friend @jasonsoninsd's blood, sweat and tears were what brought them to us. It's always fun to cut something I found. Next best is something found by someone I actually know, not some rando on EBay/Etsy....
