Had been wanting to make a rock scoop this past winter to save my digits. Now that the water is warming up and it's not needed, I figured it was the perfect time to make one. I picked up two different metal utensils from the dollar store, this spider and another more rigid one, and just needed a stick to attach them to. Just a stick, that's all, nothing fancy. Here's a nice chunk of, best I can figure, vine maple from pruning last year  . I'll just cut it here and... Maybe cut these pokey branch nubs off... Probably should go ahead and strip the bark off too... And now it's rough so I should sand it... Oh to hell with it just go the whole distance. So I did.  Next to it is the other half from which it came.  Next is a wizards staff walking stick. |

That's awesome! The wood looks like Purpleheart! Love the color!  You make that wizard staff, and soon you'll be practicing alchemy! LOL |

So version 2 can add a ball to top and spring load the spider. Stowed position is flipped up and stick is a walking/hiking stick. See a rock... Flip latch and spider springs down into action. Retrieve rock and latch spider back. Continue walk/hike. Vers three automatically launches it into basket on your alice backpack frame.
