Amazing Dino Bone example! I just picked up a nice chunk of Dino Bone at an auction last weekend. I slabbed it up earlier this week, but haven't taken pictures of the slabs yet. I looked at mine through a loupe and could see it is somewhat porous, so I'm thinking it's going to have to be stabilized before I try to work any of the pieces. Yours looks amazingly solid!

Big potatoes. Whose bone? Thanks. Aye Miss Pat.. they do resemble spuds! Whose bone? Dunno. For now that's a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

I had some striking red bone that was really punky a few years ago and took my triplets teachers advice and quartz capped it. It really pops.

It has this "sheen" to the agatized cells. I think it's being caused by micro-fractures in the agatized cells which is catching/refracting/reflecting the light. At first, I thought it was metallic the way it was reflecting the light, but after looking at it through the loupe, I believe I see the micro-fractures. Maybe I should start watching tutorials on doublets and triplets again. I've watched several videos on doing them, but haven't found the reason/time to try it yet...but this would be a great way to start.

I’ve had some that looked very porous as rough/slabs, but ended up polishing fine. You might want to do a test cab or two before going though the trouble of doing doublets.

I've got plenty of material, so it's worth a shot. I might cut a couple preforms tomorrow - along with some others I'd like to get done - and give a couple cabs a shot this weekend.

Light to moderate pressure, especially since your pads are still pretty new.

Nice! You gotta alot of slabs off of that. I looked through that old thread you posted. You really scored on the bone that day!

Those are beautiful slabs, Brian! With those lighter areas, it looks like it glows. I had to double check to make sure they weren’t backlit. I’d say you got your money’s worth with that haul!
