They say 33°23'10.4"N 112°22'27.5"W That puts it near Bullard Ave and Vineyard at the nw corner of Estrella Mt Park, so just a ways west of the raceway. W Valley club field trip to Superior AZ is the same day, it turns out, so we will most likely drive out there. Because, of course, it's Superior...

Plus those seed pods They were a trick ! Coiled like dna Not sure - butte think there from an Iron Wood Tree mohs , those are from a type of mesquite, Corkscrew mesquite Prosopis pubescens, commonly known as screwbean mesquite. It is a species of flowering shrub or small tree in the pea family, Fabaceae, that is native to the southwestern United States (Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, southern Nevada and Utah) and northern Mexico (Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Sonora). We have them in our desert too. They are pretty bizarre looking. Can't be 100% certain by this photo, but it looks like a Castor Plant. Ricinus communis. But I don't see the seeds, AKA, castor beans, in this photo. Seeds We have a lot of these growing wild in undeveloped areas near our home, and along the edge of streets. Having pets most of the time, I have never cared to have any poisonous plants nearby. Many websites online say not to mess with them. The seeds contain a deadly toxin, ricin. Don't know how wise it is, but Home Depot sells a packet of ten seeds for $7.98. Amazon sells the live plants. Here's a warning a seed company selling the seeds puts on their package: "Note - Castor Bean seeds are poisonous. Some gardeners, especially those with small pets and children, may choose to remove and discard any seedpods that develop on the plant for this reason." The spiky balls are kind of rubbery (at least, until they dry up and harden), not sharp like a cactus. Done with your lesson for today, thank you for attending.

mohs, not sure what this one is. Google search on the image says nightshade, but I'm not sure it is. It sort of looks like a deciduous fruit tree. Is that the underside of a fig?

Yohs Jean rockpickerforever I’m fascinated with big leaf trees & bushes Well you could consider mohs is for them The tree these leaves are attached to is HUMONGOUS ! Truly is Perhaps we may have dealt w/ this species before ? The Phoenix Zoo opened in 1962 or so They must have planted this tree in that time frame Because it is huge And I don’t think it is in its natural environment Glad to hear that Bob & you are doing as well as can be… Ed mohs, not sure what this one is. Google search on the image says nightshade, but I'm not sure it is. It sort of looks like a deciduous fruit tree. Is that the underside of a fig? not sure what the underside means? the plant at the Zoo enjoy the zoo so much I may volunteer cleaning out the stables as I shovel schist pretty good yo
