And am I the only one thinking "Honey Badger Don't Care" applies here?

Jason, thank you for posting this. Apologies for only now finding it. OMG I really like your float trips! Such enjoyable writing. Makes me wanna float too. Love the picture of your inflatable boat. Reminds me of my surplus store one-man inflatable raft. It was not streamlined or slippery. Blunt on both ends, and a booger to beach launch through the shore break. Those waves came all the way from Japan just to mess with me and make me sit in a cold puddle all day. Just need to make it through this break and out to the kelp. I can see it from here! Should be doable. Piece of pie, comrade. Easy as cake. Except for that one gloomy overcast day floatin' in the kelp, dropping a rubber wiggly thing into the holes, sharpshooting for sand bass. Then the swell laid down. The gloomy overcast seemed heavier and closer, and the ocean got quiet, very quiet, glassy smooth, too quiet. Then a little splish-splash, then another, then all the small bait was moving north in a big hurry. Then the big mackerel bailed out with a big surface commotion - heading north. Then the sand bass disappeared. Then I psyched myself into being scared. Oh sure, it's probably those friendly dolphins just chasing dinner, but we have Great Whites here. They hang out in the surf. They absolutely terrify me. Saw one on the dock at the harbor - 17ft long and over 2000lbs of killer. Huge teeth on the business end. You'll never see it coming. It's like getting hit with the grill of a Lincoln Continental, and then you're dead. I didn't wait around to find out. Paddled my ass to the beach asap. It's amazing how fast a rubber raft will go if you're motivated. And that's the reason I don't have a rubber raft anymore. I chickened out and I ain't afraid to admit it. I'll own it, man. And I'm not sure that I wouldn't chicken out overnight on a sandbar on the Cheyenne River with badgers in the bushes. No great whites, but a badger will tear your face off. Teeth, claws, and a fearless bad attitude. Maybe for now I'll just stay on the couch, but floating is so tempting. Love reading your adventures. Thank you. Thanks Rob! Ummm...nope...no way...no way in hell would I get out on the ocean in an inflatable raft. I have one true "fear" in life...and that's sharks! I won't even wade into the surf that's more than 6 inches deep! In fact, there's a reason I live pretty much RIGHT in the middle of the country...so I'm as far away from all the shark-infested water as I can get! LOL And am I the only one thinking "Honey Badger Don't Care" applies here? That's funny! (And apparently SO true! LOL)

Yep! That right there is why I chose to take the stance that badger was wanting to kill me! LOL I have to go to work. My eyes are watering with laughter and i only made it to “gumbo mud”. Jason I will be back to read the epic tome you produced here! I promise! I haven't read this in its entirety for awhile...but with you two bumping this back up, I did take the time to "relive" the whole adventure once again - while rereading it! LOL
