I discovered my motor mounts were broken after a disturbingly loud tumbling sound I noticed... the vibe was just loud. I replaced them and today, no matter how much ceramic or sugar I put in the vibe it is deafening.
Any ideas?

I have 2 UV10's but they are in boxes not unpacked. Wondering about the shaft bearings on the motor, is there also bearing on the frame? Maybe the weight is loose on the shaft. A metal rod held against your cheekbone right in front of your ear makes a pretty good makeshift mechanics stethoscope and you can touch the other end to various surfaces to see where it's the loudest.

I do not see a bearing on the frame. The weight on the shaft is secure. How will I know if the shaft bearing is bad? I like the idea of the makeshift stethoscope... I will try it.

The motor is quiet. Unless there's an issue when it is under load... could I t be the material in the bowl?

It seems to me that when I run my vibe, the coarser grits seems to be louder. As I start using the 500 or polish, it seems quieter. As a side note, once I had a car that was making a really funny (and loud) grinding noise coming from the engine compartment. It ended up costing me over $600 to get a stereo and speakers that would drown out that annoying noise!

No mounting brackets on the UV10 July'21 version I bought new from TRS. Thumbler put a C-Frame motor on it with a fan. Runs well but the fan seems loud.

I replaced them and today, no matter how much ceramic or sugar I put in the vibe it is deafening. Any ideas? A video would really help. I have been inside and out of our UV-10 and am confident we can get to the bottom of this. A couple of months ago I thought our machine was running louder, and more aggressive, than normal but it took me a while to figure out as everything seemed intact. Turns outs the rod was slightly loose at the base so that no matter how much we tightened the wing nuts up top the bowl was still able to bounce around on the platform a tiny amount, but enough to be noticeably louder. In our case it was hard to see as they put caulk around the nuts that secure the rod and the rod would actually stay in place when securing/removing the wing nuts. The nut on the underside of the platform was slightly loose, maybe only by a thread. After tightening the nuts above and below the platform against each other it has been running like a champ (and much quieter too!).

Rockindad I will get that video! I appreciate the info. I looked askance at that platform yesterday wondering if I should look underneath it. Before any changes though, I will stage a load in the vibe again (i put the other in the rotary). Thanks!

Ok, I think I figured it out after taking the unit apart. Appears a motor clip is missing. Any ideas where to procure one?

That's good.....Thumler parts are around at several dealers.........seems you've got the mech take down aspects.......now, what about the cause issues....?
Been running rough & tough, stages 2 thru 4 been over compensated....?
Bought new or used...?
Your first vibe.....?
Slurries been manageable, not sticky and thick....?
Appropriate media add's for the material type......?
Have a dozen or more "what if's".........it's not all that complicated is it (no abuse, no failures)...?...and yes, media type, bowl volume, slurry development and stone type will all contribute to any "bowl" vibe noise....functioning properly without mechanical failures!
Considering the level of effort you require the machine to operate, it's a bowl vibe........best used for the speed of refinement....... not a heavy burdened grinding machine at all.....!

Purchased new, 2 ish years ago. Accidentally overloaded. heavy load broke motor mounts. Replaced.
Today I tore the whole thing down. Source of noise may be the missing clip, not sure.

Rebuilt it. Ran it. Motor mounts broke again. #]*~%|€] maybe I should just give up on this.

The only problem I've had with my UV-10 is the center bolt got stripped and had to replace it. FYI: the bowls do wear out, in case you didn't already know. You know how they warn you not to use 60-90 grit or first stage in the vibe because it will prematurely cause the bowl to wear out? I only do the second stage or 220 grit and never the 60-90 in my vibe, but after about 15 months of pretty heavy use the bowl did wear out. It becomes very soft below the blue center line and the bowl kind of caves in on itself. I hope you resolve the motor mount problem, I really don't know. Maybe contact Thumler's and ask them about it. Thanks for posting the problem.

Thus far only use the higher grits and polish, that's interesting that it will cave in. I really appreciate your taking the time to comment and I'm going to contact thumler's today.

New motor did the trick. Wired it up this morning. New mounts as well. Running like a champ. Splurged on new foam on platform.

Anyone interested in pix of the complete tear down and rebuild of the tumbler? I've also found some other noise reduction hacks. Tx.

JR8675309I'm not too mechanical but also not afraid to try... if I have to! lol I'd love to see your pics of the tear down and rebuild of the tumbler, as I have one too. So far it's been great, except very loud. I find my 220 Sic grit run is the quietest, but the 500 and polish AO are louder. I thought maybe it had to do with how thick the slurry got, but that is just speculation. markb
