I haven't cabbed in a very long time. Lots of reasons. The biggest one is that my #2 daughter was always here. She's my one kid that wants to be stuck up my butt all the time. I enjoy her company, but I have to ask her leave. She started working again, so she isn't here as much. But, DH started 2nd shift and I am NOT adjusting well to the new schedule. I want to cab, but I forget to ask him to pull Gene out. Also, I don't sell anything anymore. I have new wheels and plenty of slabs, but I keep thinking I don't want to use them up. My hobby is no longer paying for itself.
So, how long have you gone without cabbing and did you think you were going to give it up?

I've probably gone almost a year without cabbing. Other things were just more important and the muse wasn't with me. Never have even thought about giving it up, though. When the muse does strike, I want to be able to sit down and cab.

Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for your reply. Totally get that. Would it be possible to set it up on a some type of table with wheels so you could wheel it out when you want and then stash it in a corner somewhere when you're done?

When I first joined here it seemed like you were posting new beauties every other day, it was inspirational. I know you were active on Etsy as well. Did it take the fun out of it by having the business side as well? The only reason I ask is that I ruined a hobby like that myself.
I was a hobbyist woodworker for many years and it ended up becoming a business. That might not have been so bad but I still had the day job as well so all of the woodworking was done at night, weekends, etc. It was such a relief when I pulled the plug. It has been years since I have done anything of significance and am starting to clean out the shop and get equipment ready for sale as I still have no desire to get back into that hobby.
I am try to be more cautious with this hobby and take things a bit slower. Have failed miserably on the tumbling front though.

Still holding out for a bigger place. The market is just too hot.
BTW- Your avatar reminds me of my glassblowing days. I made 1000s of hummingbirds. I always liked to make them like your image with the wing sticking straight out. Got into an argument with the owner. He wanted them to curve forward which never looked natural to me. He won. The boss is always right.

It's been about four months since I've made a cab, I think the last one was the Tabu Tabu that I made for the contest. Lot's of reasons for that, I suppose. Life, my deceased Mother-in-law's things in the garage that I don't want to cover in rock dust, plenty of cabs laying around (not a lot of interest in wrapping lately), and some other stuff that I'd rather not get into.
I don't think that I've lost interest in doing it, exactly, but I'm not sure what it is. Just other stuff getting in the way I suppose.

I don't cab that much but I haven't done a jewelry piece in a while now
Just haven't been in the mood
I bet you could hold wire wrapping classes and people would line up

It's been almost a year since I cut my last cab. I haven't been able to set my equipment up since moving here to AZ last January -- too busy trying to handle all the other issues in my life. Now I wonder if I'll ever cab again because I'm suffering serious hand and wrist pain from what I think is acute arthritis -- seeing a doctor soon to sort it out.
Cabbing has always been my "Zen place." It's total therapy for me because all other concerns fade into obscurity while I'm 100% focused on the "art of the curve," trying to unravel the intricate beauties of nature. My life seems very empty without that creative release.

Well this picture is my last cab and wrap I did and that was 34 weeks ago. Over the last couple years selling on Etsy has just been a pain and Covid had the local rock and gem shows shut down so I was not able to get rid of anything as a vendor. I think it has been just as long since I have fired up any of the slab saws. I've tried to keep the tumblers going but that's it. I would not say that I really miss it that much but I do miss the income that I was getting selling jewelry because that always covered all of my rock tumbling expenses. Sounds like a bunch of us are taking a break. Chuck

I hated selling from day one- especially on etsy. I cut back to just my site, but my heart was never in selling and yes, that did bleed over into my desire to do my hobby. It wasn't as fun anymore. But, right now, that's not it. I get the desire to do it, just not the will.

I get that, too. I have to make a piece for my future niece in law for her wedding. I'm still waiting to be inspired.
I get emails all the time asking for classes. Maybe one day, but right now I can't see holding classes in my little place.

I used to love glass blowing, but I have a bad back. Doing bench work and holding my arms up the way I had to really did me in. With cabbing, I don't get so much pain. But, I do suffer chronic pain, though.

Hopefully, this damn virus will run it's course and we can get back to normal. I miss seeing your work.
