It's quartz and lots of metals and arsenic. I'm not dead, yet.
Thanks!
Had to beat jasoninsd to this: Dangit! I can't believe you beat me to the draw on this one! LOL

LOL! I LOVE that movie! I can't even THINK that without thinking about the movie. Just one of many iconic bits. The witch trial, the black knight ("it's only a flesh wound"), and others always bring this movie to mind. And just TRY keeping a straight face if someone mentions a shrubbery.

You are on a roll, Tela. You did all of those in one day? How is that possible? You must be able to grind domes must faster than me. My Genie is set up with almost the same wheels as yours, and there is no way I could do that many cabs in a day on the Genie. Low domes must be the key. As for the cabs, I have somewhat similar red flame + green moss agate from Mexico. There is such a huge variety of Mexican flame and moss agates, I have not been able to track down specific geographic origin or trade names for most of them. I have consulted two Mexican rocks dealers with many decades of experience, and they can't seem to ID more than about half of Mexican flame and moss agates I have shown them. So if it's from Mexico, good luck. It seems like the only picture jaspers that take a glossy shine are from the Owyhee area or polychrome / landscape jaspers from Madagascar. Yours does not look like a Madagascar rock, so my guess it that it's one of the many Owyhee area picture jaspers. Not very helpful, I know. The Snowflake Mohawkite and prudent man are my favorites. It looks like something is bubbling up from the bottom of the prudent man, and the blue color is phenomenal. I have found tons of mediocre quality prudent man rough, and rarely seen the really nice stuff for sale. Thank you for sharing your work.

What a beautiful bunch! Looks like you're back and gaining momentum, yeehaw! Thank you. I'm afraid I got started a little late in the season, but I'll ride that wave as long as I can. We've just got to figure out a warm-water solution for the Genie to keep us both cabbing this winter. I, too, have sore finger issues exacerbated by cold hands. In addition to my idea about a heating pad under the pans, here's another idea: Small IR heating light bulbs points towards the hands? Like the ones that McDonalds uses to keep the fries warm, but less powerful. They could be attached to flexible arms clamped to the edge of the table on both sides of the Genie, pointed horizontally across the front of the Genie.

Sorry to give that impression. A few were fixes and a few were from the day before, but most were the same day. DH is working 2nd shift, so I worked till about 7 pm. However, the 60 sintered wheel and the 220 nova really speed things up. I was needing a new 1200 for the longest time and finally got one, so my wheels are all good. I hate being slowed down by an old wheel and I was catching some 600 scratches after I had finished a few.
I have a really nice picture jasper in the queue, but I don't think it will polish well. We'll see. It's a nice enough scene that I can handle a matte finish.
I'm on the look out for some prudent man- I think I'm out.

I mean, I can turn up the heat and sometimes I do, but I'm not comfortable with the heat turned up. I'll work something out. Where there is a will; there is a way.

holajonathan I meant to add about low domes. I buy almost all my slabs. I do very little slabbing. As a result, I often get thin slabs and have learned how to cab the thinnest of slabs. If I get a thick slab, I will do a high dome.

Thanks for the show! All are very well cut and polished. GYP is my favorite but closely followed by the turquoise.

rockjunquie Good to know. I was under the (incorrect) impression that you did low domes as a default, whether for aesthetic or efficiency reasons. My preference for dome height depends on the material more than anything. To my eyes, a well shaped low dome reflects light just as nicely as a high dome. But some materials are simply more interesting when the pattern seems to bend around the high dome. Like this:

I do personally prefer a low dome aesthetically (generally speaking). I have done my fair share of high domes. Yes, they do take longer and some stones look best that way. But, I deal with what I get. A lot of expensive material just comes thin in order to maximize profit. I prefer a slab to be about 5.5mm, but I can go thicker or thinner.
