Hello everyone! I did not expect to be led here the way i have heard others, i was actually at work just talking to someone about employment in another department and i noticed on her file cabinet a couple of beautiful bismuth crystals, and she wonderfully started talking about all her rock collecting and polishing adventures, and eventually led me to this website!! She said that this was the best place to go to start furthering my rock hunting.. err.. experience? I have gone rock humting alot before but only in areas that i could access as i have never truly known where to rock hunt or find awesome beauties other than some shops at the mall, so I really kinda gave up actively searching, (unless i was at the beach). I have always always always wanted to polish my own rocks!.. but never ever really got a tumbler or went forward with the idea, my parents never really let me keep a-lot of rocks, because we would often move and having big stones im your room was just “messy”. Now that im a little older and have a little land to use to build things i think that this could be a whole lot of fun!! I have no tools, and a very small collection of rocks from the last 2 years, (very small) but i remember when i was just a boy scout and i took my geology merit badge i was in heaven!! Im currently residing in north Georgia, right below Chattanooga, and im hoping to build/ purchase my first rock tumbler after i get propose!! ( in 9 days!!) once everything settles down with that its time to plan a wedding and start looking for a better stone for her finger. As far as experience in rockc hunting the best background i can provide is that im an eagle scout, currently 22 years of age and starting to get through college with(hopefully) a bachelors in chemistry education! Thanks!!

Welcome from Northern Arizona!
You've come to the right place to learn all things rock. We have an excellent DIY Board that has quite a few home built tumblers in it. In addition, there are quite a few folks active here would have also built tumblers. jamesp is in your neck of the woods and is a tumbler barrel building fiend.
In your spare time peruse the archives on all the different boards. There is a wealth of information there. Osmosis will take over and soon you will know things that you didn't even realized you learned. Feel free to ask questions. Everyone here is super friendly and helpful.

Welcome and good luck with that proposal!
I am originally from the Atlanta area and got my own chemistry degree down there. North Georgia is far more scenic than the Atlanta area!

Welcome to the board from Virginia. You were steered to the right place. There's a great group of people here who are eager to help- esp those just starting out.
Congrats on the proposal!

Welcome from WA. We got a few chemistry nerds around here. Snagged a BS from USF down in Tampa, and spent 4.5 years in grad school doing comp chem. My advisor graduated from Georgia.
Chemistry and physics definitely play a roll in rock tumbling. I utilize the concepts in my approaches to this madness. Lots of discussions pop up trying to science this art.
Preemptive congrats on the engagement!

Hi and welcome from Spain. My dad was from Trenton GA and I remember him taking my siblings and I on caving expeditions. Lot of fun and very pretty up there in north Georgia. Blue
