and I have to tell you, it made me cry. I have to say this again, the people I have met here on this forum are the most caring, kindest and generous people I have ever met. I was sitting here feeling all bummed out because I was supposed to be on my way to see my grandkids and the trip was cancelled. So I was spending my time whining about how sore my arm is (flu shot this morning) when I heard this loud thump outside my door. I'm like, what the heck was that, worried that a tree or something had come down. We had terrible winds here today that caused a lot of damage to trees, power and telephones lines. I was almost scared to look until I stood up and saw the UPS guy walking back to his truck. Now I'm really wondering what the heck! I haven't ordered anything so I ran to the door to catch the driver thinking he'd got the wrong house. I grabbed the door and stepped outside, man you'll never believe what I found on my porch. There was this big ol' box and inside was a gift note from Kim . . . I just sat there and cried. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Bless your heart Kim! You not only made my day much brighter, you have also made sure that this winter will be much more enjoyable. I just can't wait to give it a try. ;D Thank you so very very much! Cher PS ... it was fun talking to you tonight. *smile*

Oh that is so cool! Cher you are gonna LOVE that. And Kimmy Klaus you are soo nice. Now Cher don't get so carried away you don't take pics of your first cut. PS- I highly recommend you use that saw with a GFCI in place. I made a short extension cord with a GFCI outlet in it so I can saw in different places. (out on patio or in garage) It's very cheap to put together but the protection is PRICELESS. Glad to see your spirits lifted higher Cher!

Heavy on the wow factor! Indeed. A tip, as I had that saw in Los Angeles. Put a towel directly in front of the saw while cutting. It is very efficient at throwing water. It also helps to cut a couple of bricks before cutting stones. It "breaks in the blade" to some degree. The blade is coarser than ordinary lapidary saws, but it works real well. Merry christmas indeed. Now if I could only find out how to successfully franchise my shop. Jenne and I have been considering the ways and means. Another example of the good people we have here vs, other forums. We put talking second.

Doc said "A tip, as I had that saw in Los Angeles. Put a towel directly in front of the saw while cutting. It is very efficient at throwing water." LOL- I have taken to wearing an old raincoat when I saw rock. It throws a LOT of water. Stef posted his instructions for a shield you can make to help out.

Joe - Just don't wear that old raincoat into town. Know what ah mean, Vern?
Kim - My worst suspicions about you have been confirmed. I think Mark has to change the title next to your name to something like
Mother Theresa of the Rock World

Yeah I do wonder what it looks like when I walk out back in raincoat and shorts to clean the water tray They'll probably send a cop someday! That'll be a funny explanation, "it's my sawing outfit officer".

LOL@ joe, that's funny, and then try to explain your "sawing rocks".
Thanks for the advice, I'll have to look for Stefan's info on the shield and get me a raincoat. There's a little room in basement that has quite a bit of room on one end where I can put a table, drain in the floor, I think it will be perfect.

Wow! Cher. I'm so glad you got your saw. You'll probably never come upstairs again. And Kim, that was so sweet of you! But, of course, I already know how generous you are. Can't wait to get my Tiger Eye and my extras! Have fun Cher! Trish

Umm, about that drain in the floor... I think the saw sludge might not be good for a drain. The shields were in a thread called "Diamond tile saw blades". I don't know how to post a link to a thread.

cher it couldn't have come at a better time since you didn't get to go on your trip to see your grandchildren. you needed and deserved a happy. i could have gone to mccarty's barn and gotten you a piece of pottery for about the same price and add in some extra for shipping or send the saw with free shipping. now don't get me wrong, mccarty's pottery is a legend around here - people come from far and wide to go to mccarty's barn and you can find it in the white house. you didn't want the pottery did you? i enjoyed talking to you so much and hope you get it running tomorrow. kim

That's too COOL! What a generous, thoughtful, friendly, way to show how much you care Kim! I am amazed on a daily basis from the generosity that comes from this group. It may sound silly....but ya'll have made me a better person. Enjoy the saw Cher...you have had a hard year, and this should make you feel a little better. Steve

Thank you all so very much. Kim, pottery is ... ummmm ... cool, I guess. Well at least it must look pretty cool sitting in the Whitehouse. *smile* Believe me, I'm not a pottery type of person, I'll have much more fun with the saw. I couldn't get to sleep last night, way too excited and I know my hubby would have rung my neck if I had been in the basement all night running a saw. Finally got a little sleep but woke up way too early "can we say excited"?? ;D It's supposed to get into the 50's today so I'm planning on setting it up outside for my first practice session. I've got an idea for making a shield, have to send hubby to the hardware store for some pvc pipe.
Joe, I was thinking about the drain just for the sprayed water, figured it would have a place to go if the floor gets wet, I promise I won't dump it down there. I'll have to keep a path plowed out to the alley this winter. I'll have to try some searching for info here now, something I haven't done in awhile but I know others have asked questions about using a saw. KD already warned me not to start with a laker, she said they were like cutting diamonds so I'll start with some jasper first.

Cher- Want a set of sheilds for it? See Pix Only thing you need to do is drill a few holes in the lip on the table (it's Stainless steel and takes a bit to drill) If you want I'll make you up a set of shields this weekend- I still use a towel on the table- but my body stays a lot dryier- (this is a limited time free offer for you- as I have one or two chunks of plastic already cut to size!)
