Pics 1-7: Mexican Royal Velvet Obsidian. So there's only two cabs, the teardrop and the oval...but I was so stoked I was able to get a polish on these I took tons of pictures! LOL! These have been shaped and sitting on the workbench since July when I couldn't get the scratches to come out using the slant cabber. Well, I guess after a week of use, the new Nova wheels are broken in enough that I was able to get the scratches out! LOL Pics 8-9: Unknown Jasper with Flower Head Agate. Both of these are from the same rock. I had a thread awhile back where this particular rock was discussed. Couple small pits, but I love the colors in that second cab! Pics 10-11: Marcasite Plume. I got this from stephan ...thanks Stephan! Pics 12-14: Morgan Hill Poppy Jasper. I believe this also came from Stephan...in fact I think all the MHPJ I've worked has come from him. Kind of typical MHPJ with the fractures. The first one didn't start out that shape, but due to some fractures it was reshaped on the fly. I absolutely love this material! Thanks Stephan! Pics 15-17: Mexican Lace Agate (Crazy Lace Agate): The first cab came from JH Kalmore and the other two came from The Rock Shed. Two totally different types of Lace Agate. The first one looks like a sunset scene to me...kinda. As always, thanks for taking a gander! That obsidian is worth a few ganders! Those are gorgeous and the polish is impeccable.

That obsidian is worth a few ganders! Those are gorgeous and the polish is impeccable. Thanks Brian! To be honest, I thought the new Nova wheels were going to scratch the crap out of that obsidian. I figured if it did, I was going to take them off the dops and toss them in with the obsidian tumble rough since I was tired of seeing them on the workbench. So it was a huge surprise when these polished up the way they did! It gives me hope for working other obsidian now! LOL

WOW! The royal velvet is awesome! Looks like you figured out already the new machine, not even a single flaw on your cabs.

Wow! That obsidian is something else. Great work on everything, but those are stand-outs.
I don’t remember that particular PJ, but, then again, I can’t remember much about the last year-and-a-half, or so, and a fair amount of rock has changed hands between us, so it’s certainly possible. In any case you did it justice, and, if no one else remembers sending it to you, you’re welcome.

Thanks Robin! I was at my wits end with that obsidian! LOL - I can't tell you how stoked I am now with the hope that maybe...just maybe I'll be able to work some other obsidian. I have Mahogany, Snowflake, and a couple others that I've wanted to work, but knew I couldn't. WOW! The royal velvet is awesome! Looks like you figured out already the new machine, not even a single flaw on your cabs. Adrian Thanks Adrian! I'm still struggling a little with the domes sometimes. I them to work out, so maybe I should say I'm not comfortable working with the curvature of the wheel versus the flat lap like I was used to prior to the cabbing machine. I suppose "comfort" will come with a little more time on it.

I can't remember getting MHPJ from anyone else...not saying my memory couldn't be slipping either...but I think this chunk came from the last box you sent. I've been chomping at the bit to work it...but knew the fractures could potentially cause some heartache. I'm okay with how they turned out. Nothing I could do about the fractures...and the only way to avoid them would have been a free-form "blob" from me! LOL I'll agree...that obsidian is SICK! (In the good way! LOL) I love how it turned out.

LOL Must have been, because all I remember (and remember expecting slabs) is the chunk with the smaller orbs… which also has not cabbed itself.

The Obsidian is breath taking, the others are sexy too but the Obsidian......
Very well done brother. I'm living vicariously through you until I can get to cabbing myself.

Really outstanding work Jason. You’re a living breathing advertisement for whichever machine and material your skilled hands choose.

The Obsidian is breath taking, the others are sexy too but the Obsidian...... Very well done brother. I'm living vicariously through you until I can get to cabbing myself. Thanks Bry! Once you start, it's one of those highly addictive hobbies...or maybe it's just my obsessive personality! LOL Since that obsidian was worked through the 500grit (at least) on the slant cabber, I am curious to see how obsidian is going to work when I do it completely with the cabbing machine. I agree...that one did turn out super-sexy! Really outstanding work Jason. You’re a living breathing advertisement for whichever machine and material your skilled hands choose. Thanks Evan! That really made my heart smile this morning. Those are some mighty kind words...thank you for that. PS I really like the narrow pointy shapes as well. I do too. I had cut so many preforms in the oval or teardrop shape because they were FAR easier to grind on the slant cabber, now I'm overloaded with that shape. I'll have limited time on the trim saw this winter...I have to use it outside... so I'm kinda stuck with the preforms I have on hand for now... That's alright though...it'll give me more practice this winter, so I'll be ready for the more complicated shapes. I want to do an inside curve one of these days! LOL

So nice! I was sure that the obsidian cabs were going to be my favorite when I saw them, but the others are no slouches either! Great work, Jason!

Is it my imagination or are you starting to venture out of your teardrop shape comfort zone a bit? Maybe you've doing it the whole time but it's me who hasn't been paying attention Edited to add: I just noticed you addressed this three posts above so you'll be doing weird and wonky freeforms like me before you know it!
