It’s beautiful. I have a tip for focus. At least for a phone. Find what it is focusing on (like fingers) and move away a couple inches to get the focal point to move then snap the shot before it recalibrates.

My idea for the shape was a necklace with two bails, like this:

It’s very well done. Too bad about the fracture. But it’s still a work of art.

It’s very well done. Too bad about the fracture. But it’s still a work of art. I knew it was there (the fracture), but it looked well healed. The moral of the story is -- assume Montana agate fractures are going to "open up" when cabbing, especially those that break the surface at a shallow angle. The fractures that are 90 degrees to the surface either stay closed or snap in half, but they don't seem to get chippy and ugly like this one.

Way to go! I love it! Too bad about the fracture, but I bet it was a good exercise. Yeah, that shape is template bound.

The fracture was practically invisible until the 3000 grit wheel That wheel is still rough after a couple hundred cabs. I am happy that it is going to last a long time, but I like my silky smooth 600 and 1200 Nova wheels better. My 600 wheel needs replaced soon, as I can see black patches where all of the resin has worn off. But it is so smooth and cushy, I am going to keep using it until I wear through the belt.

I like it! Unusual shape and your necklace idea for it is spot on. Definitely a template shape.

What's next? A tridecagon?
How frustrating to put the amount of time into the cab for the fracture to appear at that late stage!
Definitely an awesome choice for a shape...and one you should keep as a template.

Ouch! So pitty you have that fracture on that gorgeous cab! You should have stopped the work when you noticed it, or did it show only at the end?

Ouch! So pitty you have that fracture on that gorgeous cab! You should have stopped the work when you noticed it, or did it show only at the end? Adrian The fracture was well hidden until the 3000 grit resin wheel. That wheels seemed to drive a very fine slurry into the crack and "open" it up. I was almost done at that point, so I finished it despite the fracture. I knew the fracture was there, and I had been careful to sand and grind in the direction that would not drive slurry into the crack. I think I screwed up on the 3000 wheel, went in the other direction, and that is when it got ugly... In hindsight I should have given up at that point, since polishing this shape with cerium ended up being time consuming. I resorted to a tiny buffing wheel on a variable speed dremel tool. I normally do final polish on a flat lap with leather + cerium, but there was no way to hit the inside curves on a flat lap.
