This is some more material from the box I received last week or so from Robin and Vince ( hummingbirdstones hummingbirdstones2 ). Again, thank you guys so much! Vince gave me fair warning about this material being hit or miss. The first two pieces didn't polish like the last two pieces. Heck, the cab in that second picture was still losing material on the 1200 wheel! I think they all have great pattern in the cabs, which is why I can see how this material is so appealing. Thanks for taking a gander.

Sweet cabs, Jason, all of them but the first: it's a killer!

Hells bells, those look great! That first one looks like it took a pretty good shine to me. The second is one of those undercutty colors/patterns (looks cracky, too). A lot of this material is like that. The last two (especially the last one) are pretty fabulous. You did a real good job with some iffy material.

Oh yeah - the stuff in number four works up pretty good, huh.
I'm glad the second one survived intact for the photo. I was tempted to throw some of this stuff up against the wall. That "flavor" sucks.
The little "internal characteristics" in number one were never a problem when it came to selling cabs in person at shows. People do like the color combos and patterns in Kaleidoscope well enough to overlook some tiny voids and polish inconsistencies.

Oooooo nice gift! I love the first one, but I really like the third one, too. It reminds me of that rosebud agate only green instead of that coral-ly red color.

Not as good as 3 and 4, but light years ahead of #2....there's a reason I posted that one as #2...if you know what I mean! LOL Oh yeah - the stuff in number four works up pretty good, huh.

Thanks Vince! Yep! I wanted to be sure and post #2 so people could see what they're getting into if they go for this material. The rough always looks amazing...but you were right about some would be great and others would be heartbreaking! I always put my finished cabs (while still on dop) on a ledge right above where I cab. It's at the top of a small staircase. My wife came over to say something to me and instantly picked up that first one. She loved it. She knows when something has a "high polish", but it didn't seem to matter to her on that one. She loved the shape and pattern in the stone. Thanks to you guys, I still have a bunch more of this material to work. I have a better idea now of which ones will likely and which ones won't likely work out. Oooooo nice gift! I love the first one, but I really like the third one, too. It reminds me of that rosebud agate only green instead of that coral-ly red color. Thanks Tela! I had to look up Rosebud Agate! I see what you're saying! Here's a link to a thread that has some pics in it: forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/20607/rosebud-agate

Even without a mirror polish, those first two are my favorites. The 1st one is fantastic all around, but there is something about the colors in the second one that I find captivating. The undercutting almost seems to work in its favor because the reflections suggest some interesting texture.

Here's another rosebud agate or rose agate. Not sure what we ended up calling it. It's from Colorado, I believe.

I thought the last one was going to be my favorite out of the batch, but the first one stole that spot. That second one...well...it's just one of those that you kind of have to close one eye and squint with the other and that'll make it look better! LOL - I do have some more material that is similar to this piece, so I'm looking forward to giving it another try one of these days.

That Kaleidoscope is either better material than what I got when I bought it, or the guy behind the wheels is better (or both). The first is 10/10, the last is 8/10, the second is a solid 7 despite matte finish, and the third doesn't do much for me. Those scores are for the material. The cabs themselves are well-done as always. The dome on the first one looks especially good -- low but even. I like.

I don't think I'm any better behind the wheel than you my friend. That first one really does have a pretty low dome for the size of the cab - and I was super stoked with how that one turned out. If you saw that second one in person, you'd drop that to a 4/10! LOL

Yeah, that was some of the earliest rough pulled out of there. We bought it from their old "Rhodescabbin" website - before they even went to eBay.
Got to meet Dale at Quartzsite once. He seemed genuinely happy to hear we'd bought their rough "in the beginning", and even more happy when we told him we'd paid extra for the "premium" boxes. His eyes did light up when we mentioned the old website, 'cuz he knew we weren't BS'ing him.
We never bought any of the later stuff. It had amazing colors and patterns, but we heard it still tended to be cracky or inconsistent.
