Here's a piece of jasper that I picked up last time I went out rockhounding. I finally had a minute to cut into it. I was curious to see if the orbics go through the entire rock...and it looks like they do. I'm not sure if this is Orbicular or not....but I'm sure someone will tell me what it is. Another question, should I let someone have this for cabbing, or should I just tumble it? Thanks. Steve

reminds me very much of Ocean Jasper. Is it possible that Ocean Jasper can also be found in the states? Seems to me that it wouldn't be impossible, I mean puppie finds the same rocks that my hubby brings home from iraq.

Great find steve, if you find any more I would be interested in acquiring it. And I must agree with those above, some of that must be cabbed.

Polka-dot jasper. Steve - I'd cut the biggest possible slice out of that and polish it sooner or later. A keeper. The rest of it . . . whatever.
You musta been one happy rockhound when you found that gorgeous puppy.

Steve, that looks almost identical to the Morgan Hill Poppy jasper I have. Have you been in my garage going thru my rocks? That's amazing how similar it is. If anyone is interested in some poppy jasper send me a PM, I have some I am going to sell.

Cool find- Someone asked if it could be Ocean Jasper- from the states- sorry to say NO- Ocean Jasper (actually an Agate) is only found in Madagascar- I think it is more formation type thing rather than a composition thing (all pretty much quartz)

Thanks for the comments everyone, I found this here in Oregon...Fall Creek to be precise. I found one other piece, and I'll try to get a pic of the other piece. It appears to possibly have more orbics, but smaller in size. I'm still undecided what to do....but I do know that KD would make some awesome cabs out of this stuff. I'm wearing one of her creations as we speak! Tom...I wished it were as valuable as Gold...could use the $$ since X-mas is around the corner, and I find myself once again unprepared. Richie, we need to get up to Fall Creek together. Imagine what we could possibly find! Thanks again everyone. Steve

Steve, here is what we have here in Calif that is similar to what you have there. It's a poppy jasper and is only found in Morgan Hill. It is scarce these days. Ed
