Great job on those jasoninsd! I love material from down there. It's interesting to see stuff from places other than Washington and the northern states. Are you entering in this month's contest? I'm gonna get going on my opal-wood on Tuesday. Anyway, I'm talking too much (as per usual) so I'm going to end the post. Those look super nice!

I really do like the agates from Mexico...and Texas. There's SO much variety and they all seem to have amazing qualities to them! I am entering the contest. I just finished 5 "potential" cabs last night. One of them turned out pretty good...so I might post that one here in a little bit. There's still 10 days left...so I could always replace my entry if I find something better. LOL Talk as MUCH as you want in any of the threads I start...it's conversation!

You know where I like agates from? Everywhere! Except for graveyard point. Those things don't like me! 🤣 I'm looking forward to seeing your post. 5? Dang, I need to step up my game! "Talk as much as you want" you say? Uh oh. I see a seven page thread minimum with just my posts!

Maybe if you picked up some rough from a different source, you'd feel differently. Maybe you got a bad batch of rough. I will agree there isn't 100% yield off slabs...but some are definitely better than others. Heck...have you seen how long my Teepee Canyon Agate thread is! LOL - I don't mind banter! LOL

LOL Yeah, I did get a bad batch I think! Whoever cut them did it just to mess with the cabber! They were like 1/2 inch thick slabs and I was inexperienced and working with pure silicon carbide abrasives. Maybe I'll give em another try soon. And maybe I'll start grinding them on the club's wheels. Those things about match diamond wheel hardness! 🙂 Yeah, I've seen your teepee thread... It's a lot of fun to read through! It's almost hounding season around here (besides it EDIT: dropping not drooping to like 10 degrees at night!) So maybe I'll be able to to post a thread about my favorite hounding spot.

I think the first is my favorite Jason, digging the sporadic nature going on. But even then I kept contemplating the others, another great set of cabs.

Just a little off. Next week I'm going to HAVE to do a tumbler clean out. It's like pudding right now 😂! Maybe that's because I've gone like 1.5 months without a clean out...

That first one really has a "Thunderegg" feel to it - to me. I really like how the moss can be seen underneath the agate surface. You definitely don't need GPP that thick... LOL - I know for a fact they can go a year...so do you! LOL Beautiful work! I love the second one. You framed it just perfect. Kudos. Thanks Tela! I think my favorites out of this batch is 4 and 5. Number four looks like rose potpourri to me...

All excellent, my friend! I think I like 5&6 best... Thanks my friend. That shield is one of the bigger shield templates I've got...and it's kind of a low dome. I did a teardrop cab out of that material (I know surprise! LOL) and I kept grinding it down and down and down trying to get past some "pitting" areas. Got clear to a flat dome (practically) and it was still pitty. Ditched that cab. That's why I was surprised the shield didn't end up with some pits!

Nice moss. Nice work. As we’ve discussed, moss can be a pain to work with.

Beautiful! The "3 caballeros" are for me 2, 3 & 5. Thanks Adrian! The Three Caballeros! That takes me back! I remember that cartoon! I really like #5. It has a little bit of everything in the cab... Nice moss. Nice work. As we’ve discussed, moss can be a pain to work with. Thank you my friend! I almost tagged you and referenced our discussion on moss versus plume. I hated pitching the couple of cabs I did. I should have saved them and taken pictures of them so I could show why I stopped when I did. But...it was due to pits...and we all know what those look like! LOL

jasoninsd, Just how pitty were they? I am just resigned to leaving a few pits in good material. Seeing a few pits in a nice moss doesn't bother me.

#2 is my favorite, too, but they are all lovely. Pits are PITA but if there's not too many, not a big deal. It's the nature of the beast. You could always use fencejumper's method of treating stones if there are too many pits.
