So, for the last several weeks, I've been perusing the OLD threads in the wire-wrapping forum. I started on page 164 and have been moving my way forward in time...and I'm only on page 109! There's a LOT of threads! LOL - I've been interested in seeing the different styles from as many people as I can. I've picked up some really cool tips and tricks along the way. One of the people who contributed a LOT to the forum over the years was Bikerrandy . His wraps are some of the most elegant looking wraps...and they're not intricate. That's not meant as a put down...I mean it quite to the contrary. I've seen wraps where it was all about the wire. His wraps didn't have a billion wires...they are minimalist...and so superbly done, they almost scream perfection (to me!). He even took the time to put together a tutorial ( forum.rocktumblinghobby.com/thread/26661/complete-tutorial-wire-wrapping-pics). To be honest, I hadn't looked at his tutorial until last night - after this wrap was done. So, after looking at a ton of Randy's wraps, I saw some features I wanted to incorporate into my own wraps. So I don't know if this is a direct "tribute"...as much as it's "influenced" by his wrapping style. Either way...I didn't copy any of his pieces, rather I tried to emulate some of his design features...if that makes sense. I was going to patina this piece, but after messaging Tela, I think I'm going to leave this as is, and not patina the piece. Randy...if you ever jump back on here and see this...I just wanted to thank you for all your contributions to the forum over the years! You influenced and helped a LOT of people in their understanding of the techniques in wire-wrapping. ETA - The stone is Dumortierite and the material came from brybry! Okay...enough typing...thanks for taking a gander!

You nailed this! Your bindings are spot on and it's just a beautiful wrap. I would like to say though that IMO patina would of been really nice with this stone or done in silver.

It was a coin toss on the patina...of course I can still do the LOS treatment on it...but it's harder to "undo" the LOS! LOL I agree, it would have been nice in silver...but I was trying something new for me and didn't want to have to scrap the silver if it didn't work out...and I actually don't have any square silver right now. (Sheesh...I've got a ton of excuses! LOL)

Much better picture than the one I saw. I still like it. Randy would be proud.

That's really pretty, Jason! Great job. Thanks my friend! This one felt really satisfying to look at once it was finished! Awesome wrap. Randy's tutorial is a classic for sure. Thanks Diane! You know...digging through the archives, I saw your posts about your first wraps! That was awesome! It was a bit of a spell ago!

Geez I don't even remember how long it's been but I know mine weren't as good as your first wraps. I think the first one I ever did (and don't quote me on it because I'm old now and don't remember as good now as I used to) was a Montana Agate cab. But then again I could be wrong, hmmm, may have to look back on the old posts myself.

My first wrap ever was a Mookaite cab in January, 2010 - wow, I can't believe it's been that long.

There was SO much activity from SO many different people back then! I'm glad a lot of the pictures are still around...but SO many have been lost. There's tons of information in all those threads...like little hints or tips here and there.

Yeah it amazes me how many seriously talented folks came and went over the last 20 years as viewed through the condensed lens of time, so many of them dropping nuggets of wisdom that are still relevant and important. I sometimes wonder what this 'period' of time will look like in another ten or twenty years, especially to the kids who are just now being bitten by the bug. I'm not ready to reveal too much at this point but there is a new project in the works that will hopefully be a real game-changer for RTH, and there will very definitely be a place to preserve and even feature these nuggets of information, past and present. So in other words, hopefully without scaring you, keep digging up and breathing life into these nuggets whenever you find them

I have yet to see one of your "teasers" like this one turn out to be a disappointment! I look forward to seeing what you've got in store!
