I see at least 10 nice ones in that second pic of the river bank.

Sounds like an awesome trip, glad you made it safe and sound! Next year I'll fly out and man the tow behind trailer and get it unstuck if and when it gets stuck. Other than that I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride. I know the big Fairburn is the catch, but that red fella does it for me. I haven't seen a ton of Fairburns, but haven't seen a lot or any (memory is poor) of straight red ones. LOL, realrockhound had me looking back at the second fuzzy pic for some gems...

Nice trip and amazing finds! What are you going to do with the monster fairburn? Seriously, that sounds like a fun trip. Glad for you there were no major mishaps. Did you wear your favourite swim suit? (Yes, we all remember... ) -Nicholas

Nice score my friend! I missed that you were even going on another adventure, that's awesome! That big Fairburn is pretty sweet, what do you have planned for that monster? I'm glad you had a successful trip, Jason! 😁 Thanks my friend!! I figured you'd get a kick out of these! So...you know how I've pretty much been totally against cutting any of the Fairburns I find? Well...I'm cutting all five of these...probably tomorrow. I'll post pics of the results. I have hope that big one has fortification into the center...but we'll see. I'm going to take a fairly large chunk off the end that has the fortification, in case there isn't anything else inside. Are you planning on going to the Fairburn Agate & Rock Show this year - June 10-12? I'm going to have a table setup this year! (YIKES! LOL) Please tag me when you post them, I don't want to miss it! Not sure about the rock show yet, things are nuts in my life right now...but I'm going to try! 😁

Wow great trip report! The Fairburns are awesome but I gotta say I love prairie agates and you found some great ones. What a fun way to collect rocks!

Thanks for a great story and some super finds. You should tumble that monster and see how it cleans up before cutting.

I see at least 10 nice ones in that second pic of the river bank. You gotta look harder! LOL Sounds like an awesome trip, glad you made it safe and sound! LOL, realrockhound had me looking back at the second fuzzy pic for some gems... Thanks my friend! You know there's an empty spare room whenever you're ready to come out! I'm hoping you take a lot more pictures on your trip this coming week than I did on mine. I was too afraid to drop the camera in the water when I was in the raft...and then I was focusing on rocks when I stopped, I completely forgot to pull the phone out then! LOL Nice trip and amazing finds! What are you going to do with the monster fairburn? Seriously, that sounds like a fun trip. Glad for you there were no major mishaps. Did you wear your favourite swim suit? (Yes, we all remember... ) -Nicholas Thanks Nicholas! LOL - That damn swimsuit is never gonna go away! LOL - I'm definitely going to cut the big Fairburn. If it turns out there's nothing in the interior, then it just is what it is... You have NO clue how much panic that phrase put into my wife last year! LOL Thanks my friend!! I'm hoping you can sneak up for a bit for the show...but family does come first! Wow great trip report! The Fairburns are awesome but I gotta say I love prairie agates and you found some great ones. What a fun way to collect rocks! Thanks Mel! I truly believe Prairie Agates aren't given as much credit as they're due most times. I know I passed up hundreds on this trip...but just couldn't for the life of me pass up on the ones I did snag.

Haha nope! Never going away. Post pictures of the fairburn please! I've got the same attitude with a big ol carnelian agate I found on the Columbia. It's sitting on my bedside table till I get a saw motor.

Great trip report. Glad your trip this time was mostly uneventful. I am always amazed at how close coyotes sound. Their voices carry so far. Looking forward to photos of the big Fairburn.

I have a pack of coyotes that live about a mile from my home - just east of the ranchland across the street. They're voices carry quite a long way...which is how I could tell the ones out camping were a LOT closer than a mile! LOL

I saw when you posted this but wanted to wait to enjoy it with a relaxing cup of coffee and peace and quiet. I figured I was in for an adventure novel. LOL! Lucky for all of us it turned into a rock novel. You really struck it Fairburn rich! I don't know much about them- not like you and miket, but I'm thinking that red one must be special. I also LOVE that "ammolite" one. Very, very cool! Your story was engaging, if not the hair raiser from last year. It was worth my rare quiet time. Thank you for taking us along.

Well dang...I wished I would have had some more "mishaps" so the read would have been more spellbinding. LOL That Ammonite still amazes me! I actually thought it was a small Fairburn when I first saw it due to the pinkish color...but when I saw it through the loupe (yes, I take one with me out hounding), I felt that one was a "top pocket" find!

jasoninsdWow! Some great finds and another great adventure story. The Fairburns you found are incredibly nice. I can’t wait to see some slabs-n-cabs from the material. You are so lucky to have good agate sources nearby although you had to work for them. Did you Identify the Fairburns by seeing the fortifications or by the color of the husk? It sounds like a great trip.

I finally took a moment to read your trip report, and it sounds outstanding. The photos confirm it.
The rocks are amazing...simply amazing. Now I'm going to have to go back and read about your first trip, as I somehow missed it. And, if you're still wondering, no, I haven't forgotten. RL just happened to get in the way the first part of the year, and now I have the time to focus on the task. Hopefully soon.
ETA: Almost forgot. Google Maps has an offline mode that will work when you don't have cell reception. Check it out. We used it on our Utah trip a couple of weeks ago, and it seems to work pretty well. You just have to download the map area first before you get out of reception range.
ETA ETA: I read it. Great story. And the Rickroll? Outstanding.

I totally agree with being lucky with where I'm living. It was the fortifications that I saw that enabled me to recognize them. I try to turn over any rock that has what seems to be the right "husk"...but have yet to find one that way...dang it! I definitely would NOT have seen the fortifications without them being wet...there's no doubt about that. I finally took a moment to read your trip report, and it sounds outstanding. I totally understand about priorities in life. I did know I could download Google Maps offline...but I don't think it would allow me to pinpoint my exact location on the map since there's no cell reception...or at least that's my understanding.

So...hopes were dashed a bit the other day when I cut the Fairburns. Four of the five were duds inside...and the fifth really wasn't anything spectacular even though there was fortification pattern in there. miket I'm tagging you... The "big one" is the fourth pic...and was the biggest heart wrench for me. The last two pics are the halves of the one that showed fortification pattern on the interior... Oh well...better luck next time...

Sorry my friend, hard to "like" this post! I've seen very few Fairburns stabbed with great results, and any I've ever cut were pretty much duds inside also. But that won't keep us from trying, will it? Plus, it's an excuse to go find more! 😁
