Note...I wanted this to be a "long" narrative about the show, but it's turned into too much of a pain in the...well...finger...to type a lot! LOL
Well, this last weekend I had my first sales show at the Fairburn Agate & Rock Swap in Hermosa, South Dakota! After cabbing like a madman for the last year and a half and wrapping like a fool (my wife's apparent nickname for me...well...one of them!) for the last year or so, I finally felt like I had enough "inventory" to attend this years rock show. The main focus of the show is centered around Fairburn Agates. And boy howdy was there a LOT of nice Fairburns there at the show! But...you're going to have to take my word for it, because I totally forgot to take pictures of anyone's stuff! Oops! Between manning my booth, exhaustion, and heat stroke (not really) it didn't even dawn on me to take pics of some of the other venders rocks! I do kind of feel badly about that...
Friday morning I drove out to the show and found there were a lot of people who had put up tables or canopies Thursday night so they could save their spots. I knew I could have done that, but chose not to as I didn't feel other people wanted the spot I did. I knew I wanted to setup my tables and canopy at the end of the parking lot - just before where everyone else seems to set up...so I'd be the first and last table customers would be going by on the way to and from their cars.
EDIT - This is where I have to stop and just paraphrase...sorry!
Overall, I was extremely pleased with how the weekend went. I had quite a few sales...and sold a LOT of the high dollar wraps I had. Since the focus of the show was on Fairburns and Teepee Canyon agates, those were the majority of the sales...although there were other wraps that sold as well...just not as well as the focus material.
I met a couple people who are members of the forum who don't post much. That was super special for me. One couple said they did recognized who I was by my wraps that I've posted on the forum - heck, they even remembered my "horror" float trip down the Cheyenne River last year!
I met several people who asked if I was willing to wrap their stones. I also met a guy who says he has quite a few cabochons he's collected over the years and I may be wrapping those for him as well.
Friday was an okay day for selling...Saturday was an AMAZING day for sales...and Sunday was expectedly super slow - dead in fact. I have no complaints as the weekend overall was a success (I feel) for my first sales show.
I met several other venders who were amazing people. I do owe my neighbors at the show a HUGE thank you. I left my tables and canopies setup (outside) Friday night and Saturday night - as did a lot of other people. A unexpected storm came in Saturday night with rain and hail. My amazing neighbors (who are out of Quartzite) snagged my canopy and put it inside the building and saved it!! It would have been shredded and/or blown away had they left it. That pretty well choked me up Sunday morning when I found out what they did for me.
So, despite having a finger bandaged up like all get out...and despite me looking like a homeless vagrant (much to the chagrin of my wife!)...I had an amazing time this weekend!!
