Cool stuff! I like the first one best. I think a doublet with a colored background would look good. Thanks Tela! I definitely have enough of this stuff available to try ALL kinds of things! This plate Chalcedony is pretty much everywhere out at Railroad Buttes. I'm no geologist...but my feeble brain does tell me it was formed slightly above the rock layer - it's only a foot or so below the grassland surface. Now that the hills are eroding, the Chalcedony is getting exposed in "sheets"...except those sheets have been broken into small pieces. I'll take a picture of it "in the wild" the next time I go out...which might be Saturday. (Not that you asked for a pic! LOL) Sounds like a reasonable theory, but then I'm not a geologist either.
A photo or two might help the theory. ( like you really needed that excuse )

I asked my wife if she wanted to go hounding this Saturday...we'll see if she folds by Friday!! LOL - With or without her, I'm going sometime before Sunday. jasoninsd Those are really pretty Jason! Very simple and elegant! Would look really pretty with silver wrapping. Careful with that franenfinger! Thanks Ashley! I'm trying to be super careful with Frankenfinger! LOL - It's amazing how often I want to use that spot when cabbing...I never imagined I used that spot as much as I do/did! I wonder if this is the same material that the Rockshed was selling, I think it glowed under a UV light. It's not. Jonathan and I put it under a UV light and it didn't fluoresce...dangit! LOL We have that stuff all over the grasslands here, too. You did an excellent job with these my friend- I might have to rethink cabbing it sometime! Thanks my friend! I know, it's everywhere, right?!? Thanks goes to Jonathan for giving it a shot. If he hadn't, I don't know how long I would have taken to finally give it a try! Interesting. Those cloudy formations remind me of Hector Hills material from California. Thanks Mel! I swear I picked it up out here! LOL - I tried to search out some Hector Hills material, but couldn't find any image references online. Very beautiful finish on that piece. Thanks Thomas! I was really surprised when I saw how polished Jonathan's first piece got...but shouldn't have been. It has a high silica content for sure!

Good looking material. Might also make good backing material or look cool as doublets since it’s clear enough. Thanks my friend! You know what I "should" do?

When she goes out, she really does enjoy it...it's just getting her to commit to going out that is the actual battle! LOL

Thank you so much Patty! It might only look "graceful" in pictures...it's a whopping 53mm tall.

That cab is a beauty, Jason! Love the colors in that material. I'm not generally a yellow fan, but that color yellow is very mellow and pleasing.

Beautiful piece and nice "swoop". Is that done on a 6" wheel?

I was surprised at how the colors came out in this piece. There aren't a lot of "colored" chalcedony out there - it's mostly the white stuff...so when I found this piece last time I was out, I knew I wanted to give it a shot. Now that you mention the color...I can't get the image of "yellow snow" outta my head! LOL Thanks Tela! This one really was an "experimental" piece. It's pretty big...but I wanted to see how big of a piece I could successfully do an inside swoop on. I remember seeing a piece Nate ( NDK) did with an inside swoop and I'm just working my way up to something his size! LOL I'm going to post some other cabs I've been working on in the next day or so. Several have inside swoops - some have doubles. I finally figured out the technique for not dipping the girdle in the swoop section. Beautiful piece and nice "swoop". Is that done on a 6" wheel? Thank you so much! Yep...six inch wheels. I used to be in awe when I saw cabs other people made with an inside swoop...and still am I guess! LOL

Inside swoops are my favorite! Is it a freeform? That's definitely some neat material. I've worked a slab that looked a lot like this cab.

Actually this was a freeform Perk...one of the VERY few that I've done! LOL - I felt it needed an inside swoop to remove some of the material "mass"...otherwise I thought it would've looked to "chunky".

I am not a big fan of chunky cabs either. You did a good job not making it look like one. My freeforms are "interesting" to say the least. I am NOT posting pictures lol. -Nicholas
