I'm in love with nelson. I will be posting pics! I picked up a ten inch grinder on a stand from nelson too. Pics of that too if you want.

Awesome! I'm really happy for you. My main grinder is a poly arbor 2 wheeler I picked up off of marketplace, and none of the other machines I have used stand up to how good it is. They sure don't make it like they used to. I love restorations so I'll be watching with interest.

Nice score, I had 2 of those pass through my hands when we were in the NW. Tim AzRockGeek restored a unique reciprocating version of this style Nelson, cool saw. Trivia bit: I now live less than 20 miles from where Mr Nelson retired to in AZ, Jim who owns the rock shop on hwy 60 knew him.

In all honesty I would like to buy that saw you restored. Maybe you could help me. The saw has a sort of fibermat i believe used to tame the oil and there's little copper spring retainer in the vice side of the saw. Do you know of any kind of replacement I could use?

I suspect that the mat and retainer clip was added by previous owner. For most my saws I use the blue evaporative cooler mats from HD, I usually have remnants around from the coolers. If you are ever in AZ, I would gladly sell my saw to you.

I do believe it is original equipment. Anyhow what is this blue evaporative mat? Any chance for a link. I used to work in HVAC for just a couple years but it's not ringing a bell.

Here is a link to the pads, I use these in the slab catcher tray on my saws, the oil drains but retains all the rock chips. Do you have a pic of the pad you are talking about? Maybe I misunderstood what you were meaning. www.homedepot.com/p/DIAL-DuraCool-30-in-x-36-in-Evaporative-Cooler-Pad-24-3074/100346714

That's a cool idea! Tha k you for the link. In my honest opinion it looks identical to what I use in my concrete Industry that is called expansion joint. It's a brown fiberous board. It's in the pictures above. It's on the vise side of the blade shroud and I think it might go on the other side too. Maybe it sokes up oil to keep the blade lubercated.
