Has anyone else noticed that some searches you do now are like 80% of the screen is just adverts instead of search results "proper"? Many searches are only showing 2 sites now unless you scroll down past all the ads. I dont like em. Visit www.fairsearch.orgIts a wonder RTH is still here the way that greedy lot are destroying their own gateway to the net - which of course they are allowed to do - because they did develop it!!! :/

Ive got to do some more reading I think. I think we deduce.... a) It originates from mass. Distance from source is proportional to its strength. as.... b) hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/forces/isq.htmlshows a nice diagram showing the depletion of strength (although not really related to my question - section 2 - Inverse Square Law for Gravity.) c) Its not magnetic d) Im not on anything - I just got bored one night and this popped in - I wish I was on drugs it may help me along a bit ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) e) Mass bends spacetime - gravity IS (proven (General Relativity)) the curvature of spacetime (think heavy ball on trampoline as above) Thinking of the heavy ball on a trampoline - this kind of draws a circle if you look at it from the top. The size of the circumference of the circle depends on how heavy the ball is. When you place the ball on the trampoline - it takes TIME to sink. On such small scales - this time is very short - less than half a second - but if you were to film it with a high speed camera - then you would see the circle, at the top of the rubber "pit" which formed, would grow at a given speed. It would not appear instantly. So - if another ball smashed into the ball already there and merged - would the circle change instantly in size or grow according to the new mass of the newly merged ball. I think it would grow - hence the speed question. Then again - as ball 2 approached ball 1 (it is rolling along the rubber towards it - it has to be in true spacetime) we can see that the rubber is already affected by ball 2 to some degree - so when they merge the rubber will not change!!!! I know this isnt very mathematical but it gets one thinking. Doc - everyone here is fine - the kids are 5 and 2 now!! How time flies (dont mention time!!) ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Mark

Mel - sure - the force is massively weak at such a distance - but theres a "gravity wave detector" built in the states somewhere which can detect gravity "waves".
See my post above and see what you think about what happens if two bodies collide - thus increasing the mass of one object from two.
This kind of negates the "always there" aspect of the thought.

Deeptime - I dont think everything would go dark - things only seem to go dark when gravity fields are so strong that the escape velocity exceeds the speed of light like in black holes.
I always assumed gravity was instant.
Its a daft thought to be having really - because gravity has always been around - so it never actually travels anywhere (I dont think!!??)
It just changes strength as objects come closer and move apart.
Hmmm - just now I had this thought though - which does give some credibilty to the question after all.
Say two planets collide and merge into 1 - there is now a massive difference in the strength of the force of the gravity of this new object. This is effectively an instant "new" force to be felt from afar.
Heres another thought - hey they are coming in thick and fast now LOL.
Lets say another planet collided with earth and merged. Would it take 8 minutes before the earth decided to start falling in towards the sun with its new mass (assuming no change in speed of orbit).
Kind of like when the wiley kyote finds himself realising hes been run off the cliff road by roadrunner - he hangs there for a few seconds before falling.

All,
How fast does gravity travel?
I was thinking - lets say a large object (a star) suddenly and instantly appeared 10 light years from earth.
Would it take 10 years for earth to feel the effects of the gravity of the star (albiet VERY weak). If so - this means gravity travels at the speed of light.
If less, then it travels faster than light - not allowed.
Slower?

Right - I put them all back into 600 - but although the barrel is full and totally clogged with pellets - I can still hear a lot of them striking each other.
Im going to take them out - see what they are like - and then reload them in a smooth walled barrel at 400 with more filler - which I will have to create by doing a run of some spare at 80 and then 240 and then they can all cram in the 400 together.
I knew this would be a long ongoing thing! All advice appreciated. I will post some pics again when they have done that lot above - then been in the polish.
Who knows - when I get them out of this 600 and give them a couple of days in polish they may be ok?
We shall see - the only real way I can spot the tiny pitting is when it gets filled with the TO by the looks of things. When wet or dry and clean - you cant see the pits. I probably need a good magnifying glass for this on thinking about it.

Dam - im in trouble. Please see below. I ran for 5 weeks in 600 (which is the lowest I have got) - they looked great when they came out - not at all shining - just dull and smooth. Then I put them in TO as advised - and now look at this. ![](http://www.rocktumblinghobby.com/bp/aptear.jpg) They were kind of shining up after three days (this is after 3 days) - but whats with all the white? They are packed in with TO, Water and Plastic Pellets. I may have to re-run - but I cant get any 800+ grit - 600 is all I can get. Any tips? Mark

Ok - I have the tin oxide - the guy in the shop said that the AT's should polish up nicely with cerium oxide - but I will go with the tin oxide.
Ive got 600 grit aswell for the last stage, the shop had no 800 - my question is do I need it or will the sequence of 80-220-400-600 do the trick?
Having a think - if I run the 600 for 10 days - will it all break down and make 800 redundant?
I will search high and low to get some 800 if required though.
Cheers
