I have not tried to weld it. I got it form work when it was used for a power run under a state highway. They just used a chainsaw to cut to approximant length, then it is put on the machine to fuse it to the pulling cap. The pieces were cut offs from the extra after the pull. It was thrown into the dumpster so I got it for free...............MrP
I believe this is the same pipe that the "miners" (and I use the term loosely, lol) on Goldrush use for water piping. I have seen them make joins using that same machine. I believe you are right. Believe me it is some tough pipe. Damned heavy and a bugger to move around................................MrP

Just to clarify the Lube Cool at Kingsley North is a mineral oil. Lube Cool 4800 is a water based coolant. It is only labeled Lube Cool at Johnson Brothers Lapidary but it is the same as the Lube Cool 4800 I originally bought at Kingsley North...............................MrP

I use Gem Lube from Kingsley North. I do not clean out my saw each time I use it and this stuff seems to really cut down on rust. Anyone else use this? I have used Gem Lube but I use Lube Cool 4800 . Kingsley North use to sell it but the only place I found that sells in 5 Gal buckets is Johnson Brothers Lapidary. I know that some people have had troubles with them but I had no problem. In fact I will have to order soon again. With the Gem Lube I have had some green crystal stuff cover the aluminum parts in the saw. I have ended up with pits in the aluminum parts which I never had until I started using Gem Lube. The saw is a Lortone LS10 and I have been running water in it for 10 or 12 years. I have went through 5 Gal Gem Lube and 25 Gal Lube Cool 4800. I do not drain the saw so it has had a water mix in it all those years. I have no rust on the steel parts so both mixes keep the rust away but the Gem Lube did cause the paint to release in some spots. I don't really see where it affects the blade life all that much. I have always used this in the basement so don't want the oil mist in the house. Yes it will suffer a premature death because of using water with coolant so that is why I bought a spare a few years ago..............................MrP

One thing to watch out for is no matter what direction you cut it the pipe will pinch. I had to cut it to about the length I wanted then recut it square. When I cut it lengthwise for the top opening I lost over 1". I used a table saw and had cut it almost through then finished with a hacksaw blade. I recut every edge to make the top kind of fit back in. I don't think I will complain though with the cost I have into them............................MrP

With you being a welder you could weld a short pipe on the plate to put a Fernco cap on. Who cares if you can't clean it completely just make one for each grit. I am hopping to stay around to have to make new ones but by then they will have to be a LOT smaller............................MrP

MrP @#!%$^^^# That is in my future. *&^%$#@!# PERFECT for bulk SiC, PERFECT. Steel plate ends ? Or did you add some kind of internal material ? Steel plates with tractor inner tube for seal. Used 1/4" lag screws on one end and 1/4" lag hanger bolts on other end with wing nuts..........................MrP

The LP tank is a 10lb tank that I modified and weights almost 20 lbs.
LP tank about 5"
Rockette 4 3/4"
The pipe is a few pounds heavier. The rockette tank is aluminum with a rubber liner. The pipe is heavy HDPE of some sort with 1/4" plate on each end welded to a lawnmower blade.
Kinda nosy aren't I.
That is NO problem...........................MrP
Thanks for the height info Michael. I see sticks off that HDPE pipe at utility sites. Bet that will last a long time. It can be welded. Man would it make a fine rotary barrel. It does

Since lowering the amplitude in a Vibrasonic I can now polish glass and obsidian. Amplitude was lowered by bringing mass of hopper closer to rocking vibration source. Externally adjustable slide counterweights have now been added directly across rocking force pivot to oppose them. More weights can be stacked on shaft if need be. Maximum amplitude reduction: Minimum amplitude reduction: It is not so much the amount of added weight as it is the distance from the pivot point. Due to the lever arm effect at high speeds. Neat....................................MrP

That is the way mine was setup when I bought it but I had 2 Lot-o so I wanted it for larger tub. I was going to but a large one but being cheap thrifty I built my own with the LP tank..........................MrP Do you have a picture of your lp tank? I have a large one the lining has a split in it and cant seem to get anything to heal it. You about have to take out another mortgage to get it relined. Is your lp tank lined? How noisey is it? The tank and Viking look nasty now because it sprung a leak on the last run this summer and I just left it. I used a 10lb tank, turned it on it's side, cut a slit in the to the flat part, between the curved ends, then cut 2" each way, right at the curved bottom and top, flipped the tabs to vertical, and put a piece of plate across the end of the tabs. I used Pour ON for a liner in another tank I made but after a couple of years it started rusting between the steel tank and liner so I took it out. This one has run with no liner for a few years and the only reason it developed a leak is because I am not a real welder and may have burned into the tank a little while attaching the base plate. Yes it is loud but it is out in the garage.....................MrP

I was going to but a large one but being cheap thrifty I built my own with the LP tank..........................MrP Does the LP gas tank weigh a good bit ? How tall is the fattest (in diameter) section of the LP gas tank above the vibrating deck ? How tall is the fattest section (at 9 inch diameter) above the suspended vibration deck on the Rockette ? Which tank was heavier, the original Rockette hopper to the new pipe hopper ? Kinda nosy aren't I. The LP tank is a 10lb tank that I modified and weights almost 20 lbs.

Had seen that one. Local pick up only. The replacement motor cost near that price. I'd have to listen closely to the motor. Replaced one already. MrP , note how they turn those little 4 pound barrels at an angle to the rotation forces. Maybe to help mixing ? That is the way mine was setup when I bought it but I had 2 Lot-o so I wanted it for larger tub. Lisa Ratz to Lake Superior Agate collectors Yesterday at 6:15am · Please, please share!!!! Our storage unit in Delano MN was broken into Dec. 3rd, 2017. They stole our entire 15 year collection of Lake Superior Agates!!! Please be on the lookout!! I'm absolutely heartbroken... If I remember correctly that same thing happened in Elk River, MN a number of years ago. Never found out if they ever got them back............MrP

Well James it turns out I must of had just the right mix of rocks to not have size separation I was running a batch in polish and found that the hard agates had a nice polish but some softer ones had edge bruising. I threw them back in 180AO with ceramic and watched to see what was happening. The small ceramic moved mostly to one side and also saw that there was a slight bounce to the top rocks on the other side.
I did your wrench vibration analyzer test and had basically the same results you had. I decided I wanted to see if adding weight would make a difference. Not wanting to drill any holes in the base so I went looking for a clamp to hold some kind of weight on it. I had just been using a couple of 36" Quick Grip clamps and they were handy so I tried them.
Clamps on Front
Clamps on Back
Notice how with the clamps on the front the rock started rolling faster and with them on the back they almost stopped. Did the Red Neck vibration test again and found that the amplitude went way down. I do not see the bounce in the top rocks now. The clamps have been on for about 16 hours so it looks like they could stay. Now I wonder how much effect comes from the weight or from the 3' height of the clamps...........................MrP
ETA change last video to the right one.

Now that would be a buy!..............................MrP You really think so Mr. P? I'm eyeballin' the lot and wondering if I could even get my money back out of it - if I paid full price. I could call the seller back and offer full asking price... Pretty sure I know who is going to look at it, and that guy will lowball the heck out of the seller. Figuring the Lortone tumbler & extra barrels are worth maybe 75 bucks. Hardly worth the hassle to sell. The saw another 200 if put together and it runs. That facet machine bothers me. I see similar at rock shows for VERY low prices and they are usually still there at the end of the show. Not sure anyone would want such an old unit - even IF it works. The flat lap I consider trash. The Viking I figure is worth maybe 300 bucks? I know what they cost new, but that one ain't new. Probably keep all the grit as it's not worth the hassle of selling & shipping. Would like to know what is in that yellow box. If more barrels for the Viking that would be great. Not thinking the lot is profitable. I wasn't thinking for resale. That makes it all different especially how you make things look once you get them..........................MrP

You need to figure out Air Ride for the soft ones............................MrP Wonder if a rubber pad between the base and the new pipe holder thingy would cushion the ride for soft rocks and still allow the motion. Or maybe between the pipe and hoppers - which would probably require a new piece of pipe. I believe all vibrations travel at different rates through different materials so there may be a changing using a rubber pad. Good thought....................MrP
