The chips won't matter for heavy remelt for sure. I just know it sucks when I get close to a shape I want, then have chipping on the edge. I was thinking when you are setting the basal you will not want chips if you vibe tumble because large chips may show......................MrP

Judging by this statement: I'd say there is some politics involved- at least in the presentation. If it's true then it's good news. I'm sure a lot factors went into it. The claim that outsourcing heavy industry is a factor is a bit troubling. I think I'd rather have industry here. I agree. Some factors not mentioned in the article are population growth and the coefficient of maintenance. St. George, just south of me is adding a thousand new homes every month! They need energy. Dust alone cuts the output of solar cells. sand blasting, unit failure, I see DOOM AND GLOOM for the industry. Same for those windmills. I wonder how many of them will still be functioning 20 years from now. Dave: DOOM AND GLOOM for solar and wind? Sounds like you don't follow the industry. They are having great growth, BUT what they don't tell you it is mainly because of the state mandates for renewable energy. It is true that the installed cost have come way down but most installs have a government rebate attached to them. In Minnesota when a homeowner installs a system they will keep all snow off of it the first year but the second year they will only remove a large snowfall. By the third year they don't remove any snow. If a person buys a place with solar on it they also do nothing in the winter. We also had a commercial wind generator on our system that produced 16.9% of capacity in the 12 years I kept track of it........................MrP

I retired last summer from a utility that worked at for 19 years. The recession starting 2008 had a large effect on electric growth. We were lucky because we had some large users come online to help replace the business that shut down. The other thing is that the electric industry has to spend whatever it takes to make a 3% reduction in use each year. It started as 3% of gross income to make whatever reduction you could make to having to make a 3% reduction. The low hanging fruit was CFL lighting then LED lighting. We had a data center that we spent 10's of thousands on to make it more energy efficient. In a 7-8 year period instead of having growth the usage went down about 14%. Not too many businesses have to spend money so they make less.......................................MrP

"The 8" backing plate just sits on a flange that is mounted to the shaft. You slide the diamond laps with the 1/2" hole down on top then add the top flange and tighten down the nut. Pretty much holds it all together the same as mounted a blade on a saw." Very good Drummond Island Rocks . This answers the most of my questions. Plain and simple. Great analogy using the saw blade arrangement. I get it loud and clear. "I have had several flat laps like the ones in your pictures and still have a couple I use but they are a different model. Tell me why you have several ? You have a fine unit mounted in the dungeon work shop table. Is this the lap of your choice ? Let me know if you want to sell one of several...What speed do you like to operate at ?(It will be used on softer glass so slower seems better) I am using it similar to the reason Tommy is using it, to dress the back side of glass cabs. Except I will be removing 1/16" to 1/8" glass off the back with a 60 grit wheel. Then to finer grits. James I think you will find that the 60 grit will badly chip the glass. I find that if you go from the edge into the center you can somewhat get away with using the more aggressive wheel because you will be working the top any way. If you put the cab flat on the disk the following edge will end up chipped. I use an 80 grit if I have a lot to remove but that even chips more then I like. If you are getting anywhere close to where you want to be use a 100 grit. Just my opinion so take it for what it is worth.....................MrP

Good. Catch on the lack of ramp soak. When we have a 220v heating element do we not just wire both 110v legs to it? I got sum lernin' to does. You are correct and only one leg is broken on a water heater.................................MrP

I got a good price on several pieces a couple of years ago. I found the material to be hit and miss. The good stuff cabbed nice but other pieces wanted to crumble. I always try to cut some thins slabs to make matching earrings and those slabs did not want to stay together.......................MrP

With your luck James you can probably find a used trim saw for next to nothing. The difference between a 6" and 7" blade is only a 1/2" in height so if you are only using it for trimming the 6" may work. I use this blade from Kingsley North for trimming and it works good for me. I use the 3-0030 which is 1/2" arbor and they also have the 3-0031 5/8". Being a cheap blade there is no real loss if you ruin it trying to make a unique cut. I do a lot of trim saw cutting and they do last unless I make a mistake. If you want a blade that cuts well enough to not have to clean the cut up after, it will have to be a MK or BD, 301 or 303. Good luck..............................MrP

We have something in Tennessee called the 'Tail of the Dragon'. It is famous amongst motorcyclists and sports car enthusiasts for its 318 curves in 11 miles. Local law enforcement and medics have a full time presence during the summer weekends due to the wrecks. And they try to maintain a reasonable speed limit, but it is a destination for people who like to push their skills to the limit. I've never taken the road because I wouldn't drive it fast and would just be in everyone's way. How fast can a Prius corner anyway? Local stores sell even maps that give the locations of police radar. Bee there did that with a BMW Z4. Did it twice and once the other way. When we left there we went to Niagara Falls using nothing but back roads in the hills and mountains. That was one of the best trips we ever took. Staying in the mountains as much as we could took us into some real back country and poor areas..................MrP
