Nice job on the obsidian Chuck! Surprised the edges of the glass aren't more rounded. What steps did they go through?
ETA: and who swiped my avatar?

Had a 55 gallon barrel and a half of sodalite and of rose quartz shipped to me years ago. 3 barrels total. Shipped from Brazil to Miami and trucked to St. Pete Actually pretty reasonable price per pound when buying hundreds of pounds, even with shipping and customs and trucking company freight it was way less than eBay prices. Don't remember anymore how I did it or what the cost back then was. Probably in my records somewhere. Hope the wife unit has fun with all this stuff when I die!

I know someone who has sodalite! I've got a little myself. Easy to tumble.

Silly idea, but why can't auto makers just make the damn headlight lenses out of glass like they used to?

Nice to see you checking in Sheri. Hope you are enjoying Texas.
Thank you again for all the nice rocks I picked up in your auction. The chrysocolla tumbled up beautifully.
Don't know if it matters, but you may want to delete your email address now that you have found Diane.
Take care and best wishes.

Question (or suggestion) if you don't mind... Why are you using so much ceramic media in 180/220 (never heard of 180/220 grit before) when there are plenty of smalls in the batch? You could have added maybe 10 + more rocks instead of the ceramics. I can see using ceramics once past 220, but not so sure it is necessary in the coarse/medium steps. Adding more rocks gives you more options to cull out the pieces you aren't pleased with later on when you then do add ceramics.
Your rocks there have shaped up nicely. Just sayin' more rocks = more better!

Your trip report looks WAY too cold for this Florida boy, but glad you got some nice rocks.

Should say on the motor. I like the high speed units for rough grinding and the lower speed model for everything else.
You'll get years of good use out of that. Make sure to have some extra belts on hand. (you'll see)
What motor are you switching to? Have a link?
Enjoy your new tumbler!
