Beautiful work as usual.

Yay! You're cabbing again! Those are beauties!
Mark, send me your address. I have a couple of things for you. It will be a couple of weeks before I can get them out, though.

Wow, I've ignored this thread for a while!
Yes, there will be international dealers.
That's good news Roger! It would be great to finally meet!

My guess is that your vibe is underloaded and you're not getting good action. If it's underloaded the rocks just tend to bang against each other. I can't overload my vibe: I've filled it all the way to the top and it still works fine. You might try adding more small stuff.

I'll have to get some pictures up, but it may be a while; our family is going on vacation next week for Spring Break.
Jeri, as you know I've got you beat on pounds of rock! LOL
We collected almost exclusively cutting material and brought home around 300 lbs (perhaps more). We found several rocks in the 10+ pound range at Stillwell. Biscuits and plume are all less than a pound, but should be cut.
The one thing you'll find at Stillwell that I've never found anywhere else is flint with an agate shell. It's really disappointing to find all these nodules that look like they'll be great agates, then you chip one and find a flint center. In fact, the only real agate you find is seam agate, no biscuits or nodules. Of course, as mentioned above, Mark found some beautiful agatized wood.

Personally, I'd rather have them break coming off the saw than when I'm cabbing them (or worse yet, have a fracture line show up in final polish). It's pretty rare that I find rocks that are clear of all fractures.

I agree with Daniel: Lakers will badly chip and fracture if the barrel is not full enough! Load it at least 2/3 full, 3/4 is better. I speak from experience.
In my experience, my 50# tumbler does produce results faster than my 15# tumbler. I've always put that down to the extra weight helping with the grind.

I just picked it up. The motor wasn't exactly what I was looking for (3/4 hp, 3450 rpm), but for that price I took it. If need be, I can sell the motor and buy a different one. The arbor is just a bonus - I also thought about using it to make a rock saw.

Yeah, I love Ax Man, but the one near me doesn't have any motors that will work. I did find this ad in CL for a table saw: minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/tls/2890139033.htmlI don't care about the saw, but it looks like a good deal on the motor (provided it runs well). Maybe there will be some other parts I can scavenge. Chuck

Welcome, Lisa. I've got more tumbling rough than I know what to do with. I've got a mix of South Dakota stones (mostly jasper and petrified wood), Utah agate, Montana agate, maybe some others. PM me if interested. Cheap.

Okay, not sure why every thread has to turn into Obama bashing...
Back to the topic at hand: I think they want him alive because he claimed to be part of a cell. They need information from him to find the other members and whether he was getting orders from someone else.
Evidently, the SOB videotaped his exploits, including grabbing a 7 year old girl by the hair as she tried to run away, and switching guns when his first jammed before shooting her in the head. You really have to be cold to do something like that. He's dead already in terms of his humanity.

I've tried Surplus Center, ebay, and craigslist. It seems like ebay has the least expensive motors, but you never know what condition they're in. Does anybody have a good source for inexpensive 1/2 hp motors?
Thanks! Chuck
