Interesting shapes and nice cabs. Yes, that sure looks like Texas Moss to me, although I've never found any with that much clear quartz. I like the way it highlights the moss.

Great photos, Geoff! I've seen the aurora in Fairbanks, and you've captured it well. Love the kite photos, too. I've wanted to do that, but couldn't figure out how to trigger the camera. The GoPro makes sense, though. It might also be fun to shoot a video of the kite rising...

Happy Birthday Adrian! Take one of your knives and cut yourself a piece of cake!

It should keep working, especially if you're not diluting it too much with iron. I would put a lid on it, though, just to keep the water from evaporating.

I agree with Jeri. The wood is much prettier than the pics show. Really intense reds and almost purple in places. I'm sure the tree will still be there next year, Mark. You marked the spot, right? It's between the sticker bush and the cactus. LOL
Sheltie: I know what you mean about WWR. If it hadn't been for Mark and Jeri, I never would have found the biscuits.

If you can just pierce the other side with the bit, you can flip the piece over and drill from the back side to prevent blow out.

Hang in there Colt! Don't choose a permanent solution to a temporary problem (even though it may seem like it is not temporary). You'll figure out who you can trust and depend upon. The big thing is to figure out what makes you happy and do it. Some of us are still figuring that out.

Agreed on the trim saw...I use pliers to break off nubs from the slab saw, but that's all.

You could also try the Rock Identification Library section. We usually use the Specimens section to show off something we already know...

They both work better warm, but you'd want to do oxalic outside for certain. Over night should do it, but it may take a couple of days.
You're welcome! Chuck

No, it will just bleach out the iron.

Try Super Iron Out (available at Home Depot) or Oxalic Acid (also sold as wood bleach). Wear gloves if you use Oxalic Acid; it's not terrible, but it will dry out your skin.

Wow, back to Texas?
Yes, Emily's foot is better - thanks for asking!
I think camping in Alpine makes a lot of sense. I've stayed at the Maverick Inn, which is nice, too. Yeah, I filled up every time we went through Alpine, too.

Stoner, you should see the pet wood Mark found, too. Absolutely beautiful.
