Has anyone heard anything from Don? last I heard, He had 1 foot in the grave, the other on a banana peel, someone waxed the floor and poured oil on it. .. Howdy all. Wont be on long. Very weak. Mama was in a sharing mood, so she brought home the flu to share with me. It was touch and go there for a while. Starting to regain a little strength. At least I can walk to the bathroom without help. Needing lots of rest. Barely move from my recliner anymore. Bob, my trucker buddy will be here on the 26th and 27th to load up my rocks and equipment. Looking forward to having a visit with him. Back to my recliner. I'll see if I have enough strength to spend a little more time on the computer tomorrow. Night all Don

Box of slabs is packed and ready to ship tomorrow. Not a sure thing on shipping. It looks like we may have a snow storm coming in. It will depend on how bad our gravel roads are tomorrow. If it ships, I'll send the tracking number.

Hey Tommy thanks for the kudos. I gotta be careful with you being so nice, I might stop hating you!!! LOL. Love you my Ca. brother! Gmornin Don and Jake. Don is my true friend. He and I met because I bought a ancient PDQ gemstone drill. I needed a handle for the platform to be able to pulsate the drill by hand. Other than that mine was I thought complete. Oh no the thing is actually a complete gem workin lapidary tool. You can saw, grind, polish, buff and drill with it!!! Don filled me in on this complete with pics. The old goat is very good with pictures, computers and tecnology! He has the complete machine plus a incomplete with parts. I didn't understand how the lever handle hooked in so he sent me pics of it in detail plus schematics for the correct bend. I thanked him and proceeded to let life pass on. He contacted me at a later date to find out how the drill and I were getting along. I had to tell him I had never made the handle. So Don just up and sent me a extra handle that he had!!! No charge and he refused money for shipping !!! Don that drill is now in use in the shop and both the Lovely Susan and I enjoy the projects that it is absolutely essential for!!! What Tommy said Don!!! Keep on rubbing them rocks you old goat of a mountain man! It was my pleasure sharing spare parts with you. Glad that you are able to use that drill. I still have a number of spare parts for vintage machines. When I can, I read posts about vintage machines being rebuilt. If I have needed parts, I'll contact the person and send them the parts. My machine rebuilding days are over. I might as well put my parts where they'll do the most good. Don

Thanks Cody. Pics of what I'm sending may draw in a few more. There will be 3 nice slabs of dark green nephrite, several types of picture jasper and a few odd unknown slabs. Most will be in the 1 to 2 cab sizes. A few may cut 3 cabs.

were not all cabbers so tommy let me send a tumble. its the thought that counts. Not to worry. Up until a few years ago while I was able to take my buddy Jake on long walks, I would come home with my pockets loaded with tumble size pieces of agate and pet wood. I kept a 15 lb tumbler rolling year round. Somewhere in the tumbling section there are pics of some of my tumbles. My tumbles were always donated to the local Girl Scouts for craft projects. That being said, my first love has always been cabbing. I learned cabbing in a junior high rock club way back in the early 50's, using silicon carbide belts on old bump wheels. Don

Hey Cody, any chance that you can hold off sending the first box until next Monday ? My wife was going to help me pack my box today, so it could be shipped this afternoon. The powers that be called her in to work for a sick employee, so she won't be able to help until tomorrow. I'm afraid that my box won't reach you in time to be included this week.

Ihope my box of slabs makes it in time. With my physical limits, I'm a bit slow getting things done. Plus I Have to arrange for my wife to take boxes to the PO.
The slabs I'm sending are nice ones, and in some cases expensive ones. I would prefer to see them go to a cabber, rather than to someone who is going to break them up for tumbling. Please use a little common sense where slabs are involved. If a slab is full of cracks or pits, it's ok to break them for tumbling. If they are free of cracks and are obviously of cabbing quality, please leave them for the cabber.
Those who cab always have buckets of trim offcuts. These could be thrown in for tumble mix, and would make interesting tumbles.
I was glad to see #'s 5 & 6 in the list. In past boxes Ive seen many pieces of junk cast offs added to boxes. Nobody wants those. I used to dig them out of the boxes and throw them in my gravel driveway, to be replaced with usable material. I also added a large amount of slab stands to one box, along with a note to share with other members. 2 members grabbed all of them,(YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE), Leaving nothing for other members. Don't be greedy folks. What goes around, comes around.

Damn you RTH'rs are a sneaky bunch.
I was sitting in my recliner watching reruns of reruns and feeling generally depressed when the mailman walked up on the porch with a box. Had to holler for mama to bring it in, since I can no longer carry anything larger than a cup of coffee. Of course mama immediately accused me of buying something off of ebay.
After seeing the return address on the box, I began to think something was up. Mama opened the box, and we both began to dig through the treasures. My depression quickly went away.
A long time ago I learned that rockhounds are the best sort of people. But you RTH'rs are the best of the best. It hurts too much sitting in front of this computer for more than a few minutes at a time, so I will soon go and have another happy pill. But before I go, I want to thank each and every one of you for your kindness. You made this ornery old goat's day.
ROCK ON. Don

Health will no longer allow me to enjoy the hobby, but I still have some very nice slabs which I'd be willing to donate to get this started.

Some of the chunks weigh as much as 80 lbs. I'd love a hunk! Wish I could contact him for a piece Mike / fossilman might be able to reach him for you. I've had it for today. Headed for my recliner/bed for tonight. I'll see if I can get back on tomorrow.

Just a quick update on my earlier call from Bob. That guy could fall in a big pile of cow dung and crawl out with a bunch of choice rocks. On the jobsite he came upon a seam of sky blue chalcedony. He's pulling out all he can before the hole gets filled in with several tons of concrete. Badass! I want some of what he is smoking! Some of the chunks weigh as much as 80 lbs.
