I'm just getting started in silversmithing. I'm of little help here but, if you have any of her tools that you'd like to find a new home for... I'd be interested.

I know I feel a whole lot better buying or trading on RTH than I do in a Facebook group. We are very fortunate to have this great group and our sage advisers too.

Nicely done! I have been to the same quarry and have thought about doing a wrap on some of the geode (vug) frags (they always seems to break digging them out). Your wrap is very good. Thanks for sharing.

Dang, when the hose blows you know there must be some good rock down in that hole!
Good seeing you at the Ridge!

If you are going to be in the Canton area you could stop in the V-Rock Shop. Here's a link to their website: www.vrockshop.com/Michael

The initial piece posted is indeed an artifact, I'm an archaeologist and my day job is stone tool analysis. The first picture shows the flake has a striking platform (where the blow from a hammerstone or billet struck the core) in the top left. The edges have some sort of modification but, it is hard to say what it was used on (probably lots of tasks) before it was discarded.
Those are awesome points James! Lots of Allendale, Rhyolite, Ridge & Valley, and Quartz. They all appear to be Early to Middle Archaic (8000-5000 B.C.) in age too.
Cheers, Michael

Hi All, It has been just over a year since I really began to practice doing wire wrapping. I have to say thank you to all the RTH'ers who post tutorials, pictures, and comments on wire wrapping. I have learned a great deal from ya'all. Here are three of my newest wraps: A wonderful personal find from the Chain of Rocks Gravel Bar in the Mississippi River, this tumble polished piece of petrified wood is packed with character. Wrapped in titanium wire. Rock and mineral show find that I wrapped in bronze wire. I'm not sure what this stone is but, it cabbed nice and the colors have a nice interplay. All the best, Michael

If you're not going to do anything with them, I'd be happy to trade you something. I'll knap them into spear points and knives :-)PM me

Hi All, Just wanted to post some pics of a fun field trip I took with my wife. We moved to Columbia SC a few months back and learned of a chert outcrop near Allendale SC just across the river in GA. We went yesterday and had a ton of fun collecting. The weather was perfect, 60s sunny and a little breeze; the two days before we had inches of rain so I figured there would be some good washes. I want to thank RTH'er jamesp for his help in pinpointing the collecting site! Here are some pictures! The dirt road goes right thru the quarry site. The ground is littered with prehistoric flaking debris. Here I am testing a nodule. Flintknappers test lots of material at the site so we know we have solid matierial. Here's my Rock Wife, Tracy, helping me test rock. Manged to get 3 buckets in a few hours! Good chipping, Michael

Hi all, Long time... no post. I have finished my move to Columbia SC and have gotten settled in. I got my wire out yesterday and wrapped a piece of turquoise I picked up in Santa Fe for my wife. I used silver and bronze so this piece would match a bracelet of silver and copper she wears. I hope to be posting more often. If you are in Columbia send me a pm! It'd be great to meet some local rock hounds! Michael

Hi all,
I know everyone has seen these at shows but, I can't figure out what to call them other than display cases. I'm talking more specifically about the cases with several pullout drawers that numerous vendors use for cabs. Can anyone tell me just what these are called and or who makes / sells them? I'd really like to get one.
Thank you, Michael
