You know how important size is so I think I'd be tempted to try to save the whole length so you won't need to stretch credebility by having to say "it used to be bigger" :<))

here is the lilac jadeite backlit. I'm getting very tempted to do a light panel using these colours in the guatemalan jadeite; I have some orange on it's way and it should be very vivid too if the specks I've found in one of the other cuts is any example Attachments:

I have one made of brazilian agate and the pcs. are 1/4 in. thick that tinkles and clinks away just fine! I'm surprised yours don't; but thinking about it, mine are quite long; about 6inx2in wide. Just have to be carefull in storms; one of my pcs broke from slamming too hard

I finish polished the two from above and two more that I was working on. I went up to 3000diamond flat pad at 6000rpm and I don't think I can get any better shine on them. Todd; sounds good, I'll be around and hope I'm not working too much then; I have a few things coming up. It got up to 37C today Attachments:

I really like this material with the subtle wavy patter running in it. What kind of break does it do. splintery fracture, concoidal, or rough crystal?

reminds me a lot of this material I find around here which is 5-6mohs also but works like butter and takes a fantastic shine. I call it a jasper but? Attachments:

The stone goes absolutely perfectly with the colour the wire is in the last photo which looks coppery allthough it is still the platinum; did you heat it or something? That one is my fav. and I must say that that size of stone and shape is where the wrap I showed really would shine, especially the first one

It looks a lot clearer there than here in central BC where all your smoke is landing; cough, choke , gasp, :<))) Looks like a nice dig site and a good haul. I don't envy you the fires at all; our year is still to come; 2003 was "really" bad. Hang in there.

Looks like cool stuff! ;D the lilac colour is sooo cool, they just found an orange too and I was supposed to get a peice but it got sold so he's sending me a slab of it and a lb. of honduran opal to say sorry. This stuff is so translucent, even a quarter inch would make a lamp shade but it's so tough I'm going to see how thin I can slice it for light panels too. There are a few fantastic cabs in the pile anyway.

thanks digdug, These are only down to 1500 diamond at 6000rpm so far but coming along nicely. The light peice has crystally look in it because the jadeite is so clear you can see into it. are you guys still up on the 9th? We finally got sun and in the 30s but the smoke from the US is blanketing here so thick its like we have the fires here. Of course standing on the opal hill you'd rather it be raining anyways.

nice lilac colour, it's about 12mm thick; it's an end cut and I didn't bother trying to get rid of all the yellow rind so there's a few spots Attachments:

this is the batch of Guatemalan I recieved; I asked for a range of the lighter colours and it came right to the lilac and; that's right I did ask for a black too. The two cabs came from the pcs. front dead center. It was so hot here yesterday I had a hard time keeping them wet. Attachments:

I recieved my shipment of Guatemalan Jadeite samples yesterday right from the jungle, I asked for a few different colours so I could get an idea of what I liked the best, they have just found an orange one but he had to sell the peice he was sending me to fill another order. I have another peice on the way. I selected these two to try first because one was slabbed allready and the other I could get an end cut of with my small trim saw setup. They are nice to cut, slow to grind but nice, and take a gloss finish easily on diamond; what a treat. I have no doubt that you could make a usable knife edge on it. I have one boulder that is shaped so I can get a 6 inch slender cut. Attachments:
