Thought I would do something more constructive today than preach the gospel. While the slab saw is running thought I go thru a couple boxes of stuff I picked up a couple years ago. Got a 5 gallon bucket of assorted slag with it somewhere. Right off the bat I see a med sized keokuk, a large chunk of bloodstone and 2 others not sure what they are. That's about it lapiday wise, a lot of unknown type nodules maybe geodes ill check them out later. Here is one of the cans dumped out, mostly mexican jelly opals in matrix many are way small but I see some ones with potential: Here are some slabs I started cutting the other day, cut it down till I had to reclamp it and am finishing it off this morning. I like the circulars in it. Any idea what it is? Kinda a vertical clamping bar I made in a few minutes this am. I have grabbers just felt like making something different. Originally the idea came to me as to keep the bar from rotating and squeezing out the 'nubbin' and I realized the bolt holes would have to be in the center it would still rotate. Then I was like i'll drill a hole in the middle of the angle and put in an adjustable bolt that would keep it from flipping. Then I realized I didn't need any of that at the moment lol. No biggie......took me all of ten minutes and got ideas for later one of which was drilling holes in the top plate to accept the slab grabber bolts as the ones I have work better in a bookend vise. Of course I could just build a different grabber I guess lol:

I always like rose quartz, any quality. Have a piece here and there in the yard. Somewhere I have some facet grade pieces, some fairly large, unreal color. And no it's not pink glass lol.

I was in the sheetmetal trade for around 15 years on the union side. Good money but tons of layoffs and it got worse and worse the whole time I was in it. Nowadays you better be in herculean shape and expert ass kisser as well. If you're not a foreman by my age, in which case I was but the company closed, you can plan on not a very long retirement. The flipside is working with all the cocaine snorting non-union guys. Most of these guys on both sides are all mega back stabbers like any other job. I wouldn't recommend the bs to anyone esp union because they are dwindling big time. Of course I don't really recommend anything in the US other than doing your own thing which is impossible for most I know. Out of about 10 guys I know that went into the trade in '95 only 2 are still doing it and they could both suck the chrome off a trailer hitch. The idea that unions create better quality is a myth nowadays and that is proven by the fact by the amount of productivity they are forced to create without getting laid off. You won't see many union sheetmetal workers casual walking upstairs on a jobsite.........they'll be running. Literally. There's no way to justify $40hr in this economy so you'll be doing 2 $20hr jobs and truthfully the way things are going that's even too much to be supported. What you learn is awesome because I can do anything I want basically but the job itself is a freaking joke and don't expect to ever get any respect so if you have sensitive feelings it's not a good trade in reality you are just at the top of the rat class.

Here's an idea......if the gov't didn't hand out loans like it were cheap candy then maybe tuition wouldn't so damn high in the first place. And what kinda of idiot would buy into 'let's spend billions and give every kid a college education' Seriously? What would be the competitive advantage to that? A bunch of degreed burger flippers oh boy. Like everything else the gov't touches it's been ruined.

I'd also like to add that some of the most dis-interested, lazy and luckluster non-caring employees I have ever ran into have been at the postal service. Oh and the Ford and Gm plants.

Not going to end ebay businesses. Most of my shit is too big for USPS anyhow. Just be extra business for UPS.
However I don't really care to see the post office shut down. I understand cutting costs but when it comes down to it if the republicans save $ here where are they going to blow it at? Same way with the other jerks. Let's kill the postal employees and save $100 trillion then let's give that in tax breaks to Walmart!!!
It never ends with these morons.

And now i'm sure we'll get the 'they'd never do that' arguments. Guess we'll find out. If Congress votes against the attack, then Obama decides to do it anyway with 9% approval that's just total BS. And it's certainly looking like a 'go' with the position and movements of warships.

I've been reading that the russians are building a large force ready to attack Saudi Arabia as soon as we attack Syria. It hasn't been verified but shit aint looking good.

Well when the younger see the older getting screwed left and right by employers what incentive is it to see dad bust his ass for 30 years and end up losing his pension or part of it, his career, and then die a year after so-called employment? I can't say I blame some of them for having a bad attitude you can't treat people like crap and expect them to be all happy about it.

Nice hillbilly shop I love it.
As far as ingots........here is the aluminum melter I built years ago and i'll add it works well. Before anyone asks......no I never built the machine shop. Huge amount of work, no time for it. But you can still cast stuff:
I have a scrap pile of lawnmower engines on hand lol. First thing you have to do is build a very hot fire and put the engine block in the middle and maybe even wood over the top. Grab it out right before it collapses and turns molten then put it in a pile of sand and hit it with the sledge. It will break up into small pieces you can put into the crucible. Might I add this activity will require some safety wear lol.

Nice eye candy. My '55 chevy is in the shop right now. It's nothing like these cars though.

$290 lol..........you must've been dealing with grainger. So are you going to bake rocks now or what?
I bought 3 kilns a few years ago, threw the worse 2 out. Kept one. Originally bought to melt aluminum but it's still there. I suspect I might want the space someday and throw it out as well. Then again I have heard of ultra tasty and huge loaves of bread coming out of them that could make the shop smell pretty good this winter.

I wasn't being serious. And not all people with $ are smart esp the ones that inherit it. Or ones that prance around on a stage, act like jackasses in public and don't even know where the checks are coming from.

I don't agree with Helen, and i'm not here to make enemies. But I have to hand it to her for standing her ground. I for sure wouldn't want to be married to her but then again I wouldn't mind having her on my side. I will admit she's a voice of reason. I think reason has been tossed out the window but time will tell.
Truthfully we'll all be better off if she's right. I don't think she is but i've been wrong maybe once or twice before lol.
