Looks great. An open back could have been an idea but you’d have try it - could have done that and then thought you’d have preferred closed. An alternative might have been a patterned or featured back.
Yes the word does exist but is spelled: Opalescence although as pointed out moonstone has a subtle difference and hence termed as above.

Simply amazing! Who would a thunk it weighed that much?! Any problems getting it out of the truck? I know, they come out much easier than they go in, lol. I use the come along to drag it to the edge of the bed. Then I wiggled it to fall. It also turned over exposing the side I want to polish and in exactly (close enough!) the place I wanted. You will notice the weigh times at 35 minutes apart. The dairy is maybe 1/2 mile away. Clues ! Clues! Am setting off now & will be there before you know it! 😉 Seriously great piece of rock... 0.4 metric tonne

Thanks for the tip. I found the £17+ postage prohibitive but did find a copy for £3.44 delivered from the States in VGC! Done deal 😁

Stunningly beautiful cab and setting. I've been given some poorly cut lab cabs to recut; I just need to work out how to orientate it, first!

Wow! - The first flowering cave onyx certainly lives up to its name, but I'm always a sucker for those beautiful blues.

Many thanks!
Times are looking up. I still have some creases to iron out but I can't wait to get back into cutting rocks and my smithing will follow that shortly. I've made a recent discovery of rocks similar to the Chinese crinoidal marble - no pink unfortunately - and so it looks like I've secured a long term source of rock. Roll on the (my) new year ...

Bending wire hardens it; bending it back and forth weakens it.
Consider using a sharp file to concentrate where you wish the metal to bend then cut the prongs to length; protect the stone and file to shape and tidy!
Hey presto! Of course it is not 'presto', mainly it comes down to time invested work and attention to detail.

Beyond giving the person the benefit of the doubt, just think of them as being human. We all have a tendency to look out for ourselves. If someone cuts you off in traffic, for example, try to see it as their own selfish needs and not a personal affront to you. Your life will be much less stressful if you can separate yourself from the actions of others. Glad you realize that, @lookathtat. Just maybe the person that cut you up was running an important mission to help and service others. I've driven like a complete ass to get my ex- to hospital when we didn't have the time to wait for an ambulance; road rules and speed limits be damned! The only care was to not leave damage to others or destruction in my wake.

Dunno what but maybe someone should take a chill pill.
Roger is a zen kind of guy.
His wonderful images, rocks and wisdom are gifts to RTH and contributions to beauty in the world.
There was nothing here to get wound up at.

You've achieved such a beautiful polish! And the photos are at 95% which is most of the way there. Well done on a beautiful show.
