Nice stuff there, Dianne. Someday I hope to get to Burro Creek if only to say I've been there. When will you be starting the trek north?

Well, last weekend the weather was real nice so we went out looking around on Sunday. This one was more of a driving around exploring trip than a collecting trip but we still managed to come home with a pretty good mess of rocks. Looking the other way. Obligatory cracked windshield shot. Now for you folks in the rest of the country, this is one of our interstate highways. The pickup is in Montana and the road is taking us to that flatter ground in the distance which happens to be Wyoming. Makes this an interstate, correct? Kind of weathered on the surface, but I'll probably go back and check out this outcrop a little more. There is more of this exposed on the hillside. I think this would look good in the backyard, but I'm still not supposed to lift over 15 pounds. A couple of pieces from near the above outcrop. Took the pics after we got home. Just some more scenery. Just another rock. A small slab from one of the rocks we brought home that day. That's it for now. Thanks for looking. Except for the rock pics I took at home, the others are all in Montana. Russ

Very cool. Only got through that country once about 20 years ago and not much time to look around. Think I'm due to head that way again. Thanks for the pictures.

Woke up this morning thinking about it-but I need to finish paying hospital bills before I buy any more toys.

From what I am seeing here this lighter colored piece is the same stuff, different quantities. I got really excited when I found this stone had red in it but still did not have a clue what it was. Awesome thread, thank you timloco for starting this. This is probably my favorite local stone after jade. I tried drilling a slab of this to make an e-cigarette holder and gave up because I was afraid I was going to destroy my diamond hole saw. Hard and tough. Jim Russ, nowyo, I will see if I can find the slab that it is written on but I am pretty sure that the SG is 2.87 on one of the stones that I checked. Yeah, that looks like the stuff all right. 2.87 sounds about right for S.G., mine is all in that range. I know I have some of that with the red in it and I think that I have some slabbed. Have to look tomorrow. Be interesting to see what these other guys are coming up with for S.G. Russ

I found this nice little cobble of epidosite while rockhounding last weekend and I just disassembled it in my saw. What a cool rock! It had one big fracture down the middle that made my slabs a bit smaller, oh well. Have a pile of that laying around here. I'd be really interested in seeing some specific gravity numbers on that stuff. Russ

Another BTDT. Messed with it, disassembling/cleaning/oiling, kept it going a few months. Just get a new one.

I've been cooped up inside and pretty much out of commission for way too much time this winter. Slowly feeling better and the weather was beautiful last weekend and I just had to get out of the house. Mostly just exploring, but did find some rocks and got out and wandered around a little. Just never really know what you'll find out messing around. Just a scenery shot. Triassic red beds (Chugwater Formation). The white caprock on the top is Gypsum Springs Formation. This guy is still out there. Laid my hammer beside it for scale but like a dummy didn't get the hammer in the picture. I'm not supposed to lift over 8 lbs. for another month or so and this rock weighs several times that. Try and get back up there and dig it out this summer. Me out trying to wander around. Hopefully I can get rid of that oxygen tank in a couple of weeks. I'm getting around kind of slow, but getting around a little. We did bring a few rocks home, they're still in the pickup. I'll get them rinsed off today and put up a few pics later. Thanks for looking. Russ

Hmmmmm Those look awfully familiar. Guess that happens when you live in the same basin. hahaha We say we live out in the sticks but really we live out in the sticks and stones. It is not bad living where other people go on vacation but not actually right where they go on vacation. Good to see you up and running again. We should make a plan. I will be in touch. Jim Ha, yeah, I think you've seen most of these already. Starting to get around a little, as long as I don't overdo things I'm okay. I'll give you a call this week, Wednesday I'll be at the doctor pretty much all day. Russ

Wow Russ, Basin where? Dang, some of that agate looks as food as Mexican crazy lace. The red one and the multicolored pink one are super nice too......Mel Thanks, Mel. These were all picked up in the Big Horn Basin in Northern WY. Still have a pile I need to get slabbed up out there. Russ
