I think the original vice set up on the FranTom was gravity feed if you looked hard enough I'm sure some one would have it assuming its the same setup as my Frantom is your unit just the saw? mine is saw and grinding arbor also.... I will look for a vise/feed for the Frantom. Mine is saw, and two SC wheels. I have a gravity feed water supply and it works well. Really just need the vise and system to move the rock straight ! : )

Welcome,
This is a very friendly helpful forum and much good information is available. I've been on less than a year but feel like I have benefited greatly from the encouragement of these fine folks. Enjoy! Don

Or the BD 301. Both good blades. Oil would be preferable for a 10", but as long as you don't push it too hard the water with additive will work. You'll get shorter blade life with water though. I had a feeling that I would get good advice here and you guys come through as usual - thanks much! I am willing to sacrifice some blade life for the convenience of "no oil." I drain the oil after each use and spray the blade with WD40. Any recommendations for coolant? Thank you.

are you vice or hand feed? I have the MK on my FranTom hand feed --going on about 3 years I've done lots of cutting- but not excessive large rough cutting use just water anyone of those blades should last a long time mohs I hand feed. Wish I had a vise and feed unit but - Where/How would I find a vise to add on? Thanks much for the input!

Thanks Walt, Amazon was not even in my search results. The blade shown on Amazon's page has "Use with oil coolants only" on the label. Have you used this one with water/coolant? Thanks again. Don

Time for my first diamond blade purchase. The 10" blade that came on my FranTom Combo finally gave up the ghost.
Having never purchased a blade of this size/type - I've come to the experts of RTH for advice.
OK - I've narrowed it down to 2 blades (I think).
10 x 040 x 1/2 x 5/8 (76.00) / MK-303 PROFESSIONAL™
or
10" x .040 x 5/8" ($71.50) / Barranca BD 303 Professional™
I use water with coolant and will not go to oil unless it is absolutely unanimous that I should - see, I'll listen to anything you guy/girls offer.
Please tell me that I am on the right track (or not!) and if you have experience with either. Or offer other options. All advice is appreciated - sincerely.
Thanks,
Don

Love the photos of this trip. The fish are nice, the rocks are nicer, but the boiled peanuts are the best! (actually the coral is the best!) thank you for sharing. Middle Georgia Boy = grew up helping on grandparents farm in Twiggs county. Picking and hauling watermelon off the ground, picking and hauling peanuts out of the ground. Cutting grinding and boiling sugar cane. GrandPa would boil the salty peanuts - or when they were dry and roasted would make peanut brittle with the home made cane sugar syrup. (Mule pulled the pole tied to the sugar cane mill to squeeze the cane) Country folks know how to eat! Again thanks for the pictures. This was over fifty years ago but the memories are fresh.

Last night we watched a taped (recorded) show: Nova: Life's Rocky Start. www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/earth/life-rocky-start.htmlIf you haven't seen this DO! It is sooooo good ! Has excellent views of many rocks and presents interesting theories about the origin of life. Well worth the time! I plan to watch it again. Don

I bought a product called "Protectaclear" by Everbrite several months ago. It is pricey but a little goes a long way. I have used it for wood and copper and will try it on a copper tab-setting I am planning. Has anyone used this product and what do you think about it? Thanks, And thanks again Michelle for the tut! dj I haven't used it but I have heard a lot of good things about it. Never anything bad. Let us know what you think of it. I will, and thanks! to you and Pat!

Thanks - Micellular - I had to google "tab settings" : ) I have see some by other forum members. I may try that as I am awful (so far) at wrapping : (
Do you have suggestions for tutorials on tab settings? Also, now that you are using a wheel > do you have recommendations for types/brands? I have gone through 2 SC 60# wheels and am thinking about going to diamond. Don

These are Great Michelle. I have a few pieces from Donnie's and am enjoying them. Your cabs are excellent. Do you wrap?
Thank you for sharing.

What is the purple stone? It Is beautiful. It's charoite, given to me (as a slab) by a local lapidary (Jim Souter). It is beautiful in sterling and our friend is just crazy about it. thanks again KathyG

Thank you both. Jamesp and Krazydiamond. Your positive comments are a real treat! Encouraging as are all my interactions with RTH. (and with the wire wrapping learning curve - i really need this) lol
