Crap, I have to learn to type too *L*. The lace point is four "inches" long. The bow and arrow were late in coming to this part of Texas so most of what I find are atl atl dart points or lance points...Mel

Howdy folks, Still getting the hang of posting new pics. Found this one pound golden tube on black agate Rio grande agate on a hunt yesterday. Found about 20 pounds of stuff in total, some rhyolite, Rios and a nice hunk of wood. This is my favorite from the lot.....Mel DSCN9348 by lonerider652000, on Flickr

Howdy folks, Getting the hang of this flickr stuff. These are a couple of recent finds from my hikes through the pastures here on the ranch. The four Pedernales culture lance point is between 2000 and 6000 years old. The other artifact is an asymmetrical drill. Spear point was dug from under a fallen tree by a ground squirrel. Was astounded to find a piece this big mostly intact....Mel DSCN9327 by lonerider652000, on Flickr

First off let me preface this by saying I am not computer literate and the 16 step tutorial looks like alien complicated stuff to me. I kind of get it until the step which says go back to dashboard. How do I do that?
Next questions are on steps 13 and 14. ON 13 after I click "edit" , do I simply move to next step or do I have t fill in a bunch of blanks ans what do I put in said blanks?
Same question on step #14 . After I click "edit" do I have to fill in blanks and with what?
Overall, there has got to be a simpler way to post picks as to me this seems confusing. I'm just and old guy from before the computer freaking age after all.....Mel

Wow! Glad to see that is still such a great show. In the 14 years we had the ranch in Hunters Valley, that show and Snyders Pow Wow were always the highlights of the year. That magnesite is really nice!....Mel

Cool! That looks like what we call Devil's Toenails here in Texas. Ours come in that orange color occasionally too....Mel

Yeah, you have to watch for that with Indian Fancy Jasper/Bloodstone. Bith are from different parts of the same deposit on the Deccan Plateau and intergrade. A lot of the jasper has very nice zones of concentric orbs or poppies and much of it is very well silicated and will not undercut. Occasionally you get one that has loose or incompletely silicated orbs and that's where the undercutting happens. I usually just chuck out those slabs as being too much work to fix because the better stuff is easy to find.....Mel

I think Tommy nailed it. Those moss inclusions and the color scheme make it Agua Nueva to me also....Mel

I'd say a chert nodule too. Round here the limestone is full of chert nodules that have a limestone rind on the outside. If chert it should be very hard on the inside....Mel

That's example of a "Desert Rose" or Chalcedony Rose. They weather from volcanic rocks like basalt and Rhyolite in many desert locations. In situ they fill cracks and voids in the matrix. The silica usually comes from overlaying ash deposits or silica in the overlaying igneous matrix and the silica is deposited at fairly cool temperatures as the silica percolates down through the matrix and fills the voids. Very common to see those grape like botryoidal formations and some can get very fancy and actually look like roses. Whenever we'd go east around Needles, CA when I was a kid that was always a stop we made. Back in those days, you could pick up a bucketfull of chalcedony roses in half an hour right near the roads....Mel

Awesome cabs. I like the purple Burro Creek best. The banded material is interesting too and we used to find very similar rhyolite just east of California City. When I lived in Ojai, we used to collect a lot of that fossil stone on the cobbled beaches between Mugu Rock and Malibu. Locally, it was called Pt. Mugu Shell Rock or simply Coquina. The best examples had a weathered exterior but an almost black interior matrix and took a pretty fair polish. Fun to work too because it cuts fast....Mel

Purple one is Luna agate out of Mexico. I'd say the other is Medicine Bow. The manganese plumes often have a metallic look to them...Mel

My Genie motor caught on fire and burnt up years ago. Had to buy a whole new arbor. Was told later about the capacitor problem but I don't know that I had any warning before it burned up so that would have done me no good at all. Another common Genie problem to watch out for is getting water on the base board. It's made of junky chipboard on mine and when I moved to Texas, the humidity immediately and badly warped the base. It's bowed like the rocker on a rocking chair now *L*......Mel
