We woke up to 10" of snow yesterday, March 12th. The wet, heavy, pretty snow that coats everything. It was good for a snow day at home for the kids, but melted (mostly) by late afternoon. As far as big snow goes, this is the best kind, and a chance to get the camera out for some winter wonderland photos.
Lexington, KY
And, of course, these fools loved playing in it.

Looks solid. I'm sure it will see many miles of use. Nothing like doing it yourself!

I think I shall go vomit now. That's a 100 year score here in the East. And unfortunately, Bob found this century's bonanza.

After 3 days Rolling the rocks went from above the water line to almost all below. Used over a cup of 60/90. Can’t wait to check on day 14 You can step up the grinding with some 46/70. That beast can break down the course grit. Throw in a handful of clay kitty litter and you can do 4-5 day cleanouts. Grit is gone by that time.

Another nice batch. Who would've guessed there was that much variety in carnelian?

That's a heck of a lot of nice tumbles. Some sweet Lakers in there. I can't imagine how long it would take me to gather that many stones. Have a habit of giving bowls of rocks as gifts.

How cool, you found a KY agate in the shape of KY. You've got some nice finds there. Maybe I'll get motivated to drag myself out and do some hounding in the few weeks between winter and summer.

Scary, Tela. Glad it wasn't any worse than that. It's a good reminder to check fire extinguishers and smoke detectors.

You and Garage Rocker have set a new standard for tumbled rock photography. These might be the best collection of macro shots I have seen. Really nice work. Chuck Thank you, Chuck! I guess it's like the Master and his Apprentice. Randy's a fantastic resource and is very willing to share his knowledge. To be thrown in that company is a great compliment! Dude, you're high. You took that ball and ran it right into the end zone...for the win! Some people can blend the technical aspects of photography with the creativity needed to take pleasing, interesting photos. One has to have both, but when you can do that, we get photos like your showcase above. Keep on keeping on!

You killed it, Jeremy! Those are some sweet macros. The San Jacintos are perfect fodder for it. So many details. Love the fossil in #18, but they all deserve an ovation.

Inspirational! Those are all crazy beautiful. Sometimes I get impatient and want to see shine, when I really ought to do another grind and erase some imperfections. Really lovely work. Thanks, Inga. I appreciate the kind words. I saw your obsidian photo in the 'my rocks won't polish' thread. They were off the charts slick. Went looking for some of your other tumble photos, but there isn't much to find. I'm guessing the posts were old enough that they don't show up anymore. The porcelanite photos I saw were incredible, though. So, I'll be looking for future tumbles from you!

Life hack: No matter what you're drinking, this makes a handy tote to get your rocks to the saw. Is that beer on the rocks? Or rocks on the beer? Well, I don't know about the beer, but my 'rocks' were on ice. 49 degrees and breezy is a bit chilly to be playing in water.
