One of these days someone around Chicago will post something like this. I would be posing pictures of that beautiful saw in my basement if you were closer.

Thanks, johnjsgems. I sent an email to Ameritool asking about the wobble and any differences in the new machines from the one I purchased. They said nothing about the wobble and only said a new motor and drain design had been implemented. I used the 180 grit wheel to grind down some chips/scratches in rocks in my tumblers (9:00 position worked great Victor). It worked really well. I also glued a couple of preforms that Tela sent me to some aluminum rod and I'll try getting them to a final shape before moving to the Lot-O for polishing. I've been looking for videos showing how people create cabochons on flat discs but haven't turned up much info. Any links would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome batch! What polish did you use? I finished a batch of obsidian this summer but ended up with a matte shine using TiO2. I used the Aluminum Oxide polish from the Rock Shed.

Can a saw like this be ran indoors without causing oil to end up everywhere? I have a small "room" under our front porch steps, but don't want oil getting into the rest of the basement.

I'm like James-Obsidian wins every time.. I get the stags great, till the polish stage, than nothing! Need a Lot-o too... I had about 10-12 pieces that got chips sometime during all the Lot-O stages. Everything was nice and smooth when they went in. And I bet there was maybe 25-30% large and small ceramics added. I guess it's the nature of the material. I'll do a little grinding on the new flat lap and throw them in the next batch.

Why did you keep them in a jar of water while they waited for their teammates to be ready? Simple curiosity. Nice result! It just seemed like the thing to do. If there was a little grit left on them it would not dry out?? Not really sure. Just something I started doing.

Well, this batch has finally finished. This material is impossible to photograph with my crappy homemade setup. And my lint-free cloth must need to be replaced. 46/70 SiC in the QT66 until ready 48 hours in each - 120/220 SiC, 500 AO, 1000 AO and polish. Here are the results:

Garage Rocker, and here I thought I was the only one to play "catch the rolling rock". It usually happens after I hit the barrel with a few sprays of water. Some nice color combo catches my eye. All the spiders in my basement must think I'm a little crazy.

That is some fantastic material. And very nicely shaped. Is there a vertical edge to these pieces or does the angle taper right down to the back? Can you show a side picture for one of them? Thanks!

Mine was #2 and was a stretch for the theme "Halloween" which is why I wrote a spiffy essay. I just wanted to enter a contest! Congrats to the (perfect) winner.

I would also be interested in some bigger Montana's like you have shown in box #4 to round out combining #2 and #3 if there is room left (or moving up to a large box). Let me know a price.

Can you combine box #2 and #3 into a medium box?

I was getting ready to place another Rock Shed order and was looking thru all the crushed rock. Noticed a bunch of "soft" stones and looking to see if anyone has had actual success with these materials - howlite, puddingstone, fossil rock, moonstone, feldspar, etc. I see the directions on the website, just thought I would ask the collective here.
It seems like the rough tumble is 120/220. I'm guessing the 46/70 I use would be way too coarse. Or would I just need to check it after a few days? Does anyone run this material only in the Lot-O? There are 2 sets of instructions shown for soft rocks. One has a dry polish and one is wet. Advantages of one over the other? Do you use ceramics or pellets when running this in the rotary tumblers?
Thanks for any info!
