The temperature has been a few degrees below normal this year so far here in North Alabama. Highest so far this year has been 94f or 35c degrees. I can handle the heat much better than my friends. They will be melting and I will be mowing the grass. Keep hearing about Record-High temps around the globe associated with global warming but it's missed us here so far. The highest I remember here was between 105f and 110f over 42c but only lasted a week.

I brought home some more glass from some different lighting fixtures, and plan to run this stuff for the next coupla months or so. The last batch ran in Stage-1 Course for 2 months or more. The glass lenses are made of Pyrex which appears to be some very tough stuff. I will not be so concerned about Rounding on this batch and will probably push everything through to polish stages sooner than the last batch.
These new lenses are from different types of lighting fixtures so they are slightly different sizes. In the above picture, the lenses used in the last batch are the 2 on the right-hand side. This new batch is using the lenses with the lines in the lower-left corner. These are smaller and lighter colored than the last ones. I forgot to take a photo of the clear glass before I smashed it up. That lens was considerably larger and thicker than any of the other glass, almost 12 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick at the largest points. Those clear bits are in the plastic tub at the top.

Will be tumbling again in a Lortone QT66 six pound barrel. Got all the colored glass in the barrel and about a forth of the material from the large clear lens.

Got it started this morning and will keep y'all informed . . .

Sit around with nothing to do for a few days and the new projects will appear out of the vapor.

Hmmm...seems to me that "rounded and starting to get smooth" means they're no longer doing their job. Yes, rounded the large SiC pebbles don't do much grinding, but they make great 'Smalls' that almost never go away and carry the smaller grit to get into tight places helping the rest of the polishing process.

Got some "Bulk" Ungraded SiC from jamesp and have been using it for a few months now. The biggest pieces of this grit are larger than 1/2 inch at the longest dimension. Here are some fresh unused SiC from that bulk stuff.
I screened it through a 1/4 inch screen and came up with these SiC pieces as an example of the biggest bits in there, large enough to be used as Smalls that never breakdown or go away.
Here are some SiC pieces that have been tumbling rocks for about 2 months, slightly rounded and starting to get smooth. I have Lortone 3A and QT-6 barrels that are over a year old and I can't see any thinning of the rubber from using the bulk SiC. In the smaller 3 pound barrels, none of the SiC pieces larger than 1/8 inch will breakdown,

Yeah and then you can start all over again I have emptied my tub of Ready To Polish stones from my Stage 1 tumbles. Got to start running dual 6 pound barrels in Course grit again.

My two 6 pound barrels are nearing the end of some polish stages. One of the barrels is running Final Polish with Cerium Oxide. Other barrel is running prepolish AO-1000, In two weeks there will be about 12 pounds of stones from final polish. Same rocks in both batches, mostly local self collected stones and more stones from the Family Dollar store. and of course a 3 pound barrel running Family Dollar store rocks in stage 1. About to run out of these rocks ...

My girlfriend and me have 3 dogs 50-110 pounds. The medium dog loves to snuggle with us in the bed. the little one from the dog shelter will get up on the bed in the morning to get his morning snuggles. Our bed is a Waterbed and the big dog feels uncomfortable on it, can't figure it out.
Rock People are more outdoorsie and into nature so I should have realized that most of you guys would be close to your pets. I think that if I asked this to a more general public like my FaceBook page, I would see less pets sleeping with their owners.

So I've had a coupla weeks to show off my frosty looking tumbled Theater Glass along with some of my best Tumble Polished Rocks. The reaction is always about how cool the glass looks. I'll ask about what they thought about the stones and they say that the stones are good too but would you sell me some of that glass ?
I have thought of a project to use this glass for... a backlighted panel with a rocket launching on it. The thrust fire under the rocket would start at the top with clear White and gradually change through Orange, Red, Green, Blue colors. The glass would only be tumbled for one week so it would still would have sharp corners on it. Still working with this idea.

I would put the lid back on the problem barrel and roll it dry for a few days to round it back out.

I think that kitty litter is too course and would prevent a polished finish.
