This is such a great thread, thought this would fit in. Randy had sent me Coprolite that I sent to numerous kids around the US. This book popped up on FB and I ordered a couple of copies for the older kids.

We lost Lizzie last year, a tough, little Morkie that overcame quite a bit. She originally belonged to our next door neighbor but spent a lot of time at our home, including showing up at our outside bedroom door at 5:30 AM most mornings! On July 3, 2013 they asked if we'd keep her over night, they never came for her. After 6 months I called the man said "She's ours", he started to make excuses and I hung up on him, she was ours. She had allergies, she had an enlarged heart, they never even attempted to help her. We did and she lived until March of 2020. She went everywhere we went, with her sidekick, our border collie. She hiked, went rockhounding, took long Jeep rides. I put this on the cover of a calendar I do each year:

Not sure how I missed this, very nice collection. I've collected custom knives for over 30 years, buying and selling to improve my collection. I stopped really collecting several years ago, lately I just buy a few a year, mostly from friends on a knife forum.

Merry Christmas, Randy, you put a smile on a few kids faces. Learning about Coprolite:

That really is amazing, I love reading about discoveries like this. My wife and I have visited some very good sites in Utah, and there are thousands of them. The way these have stood up over time baffles me.
A good book about a recent discovery is "The Lost City of the Monkey God" by Douglas Preston. Modern story about how hard it is to access the jungles, from politics to the logistics.

That sounds like quite an adventure you had. Sorry to hear about the tire and the woes of getting it off. I'm just stunned by the material you find and love these trip reports.

Very interesting, Dave, thanks! We've done a couple of hikes in Kodachrome S.P., this picture is from the Panorama Trail. Right of center you can see a Sandstone Pipe.

Over the last two weeks we've gotten out a couple of times. Some Fall colors and a fun slot canyon. A beaver dam, just outside Zion N.P. Aspens and Lava: A side road off a side road: Our crew at the entrance to the Peekaboo slot canyon, Kanab, UT Twisty:

I tumbled the remaining pieces that you see above. I tumbled it again with Obsidian, that seemed to work out really well.

Unfortunately, I'm a collector of stuff. It varies at times, I just get a small collection of something and move on. The one thing I've stuck with for 35 years is custom made knives, I've posted some here in another thread. I do keep some notes on things, my wife will be overwhelmed by the scope of what's here. My latest is going to be a few Katsina Dolls, part of the Hopi religion. This Hoot'e by a Hopi carver.:

I've had a Tungsten cube on my Ebay watch list for years, can't bring myself to spend the $$. You've got an interesting collection going!
