It's just chopping off the pieces of marble he doesn't need. I don't see what the big deal is

The meet and great was a blast! It was nice to meet some of the folks i have been typing at here on RTH. I had not been to Quartzsite for at least 20 years. It such a blast! So many rocks! I went on the field trips for green banded rhyolite, chip board rhyolite and salome marble. All of these trips were the kind where you get out of your vehicle and decide how much rock you wanted to pick up. I found the best deals in Desert Gardens. I picked up lapis, malachite, condor agate, moroccam seam agate and a few other goodies i can't remember at the moment. Love the green rhyolite pics! I'm heading out there in a couple weeks to look for that. Do you happen to have directions to the chipboard and marble locations? That chipboard looks like pretty cool stuff.

Plomosa road is easy. Drive up Plomosa road like you are going to Bouse. Stop in Quinn Pass, get out and walk over to the historical info sign. Read it. Look at the high hill behind. All of that hill is rhyolite. Brite is slightly more challenging. Continue toward Bouse and after road levels turn left into the desert. Wander around and you will find big long wide trenches dug into the hillsides. That's you. I have never found any pieces big enough to do anything with. Good luck and be careful in the desert! Thanks Orrum! You happen to know of birds eye rhyolite in the area? I saw some pics of that too, looked like it was worth looking for

I've seen a few threads that mention green banded rhyolite off Plomosa Rd near Bouse AZ. Anyone have directions or coordinates for collecting it?
I'm also going to be looking for banded barite off the same road. I figured I'd start with the directions in the Bearce book, but MRDS shows old barite workings all over. Anyone have any advice for finding the best material?
Appreciate any help

Thanks Mark. That'll save me some time and a disappointing trip No way the claim is the entire deposit. 0.8 tenths of a mile? Get in their and collect near the claim. It's nice material. OK...rookie question... I've collected a bunch of spots, but never right on top of any claims. How do you know what's fair game and what's not? From what I can find online, they have 10 claims (Black Bear #1-10) last activity showing is payment 8/29/17 for the 2018 year. Total of 43 active lode claims on that PLSS section.

November 13, 2015 This site was moved into the Closed to Collecting Section. I have recently learned that the "Black Bear Group" has filed a claim on both collecting sites. Quote from a private pay site I am a member of. Thanks Mark. That'll save me some time and a disappointing trip

Nice stuff. I just finished a batch of Lake Michigan/Superior odds and ends. I need to steal your tumbling recipe to get that polish! Anyone know the ID for the one in the 2nd picture?

Hey Mike. I've been through Mayer a million times but never to collect onyx (panned for gold on Big Bug near there a couple times). There's directions in a book I have tho! A ridge of onyx is 8 tenths of a mile west of the intersection of Central Ave and RT 69. 69 rises up and bisects it at a 90 degree angle at the top of the upgrade. On the north side of the road at the top of the grade is a locked gate at the quarry. This is where everyone went for years to collect, but now there's a now trespass sign on the gate. However when they widened the road a couple years ago it exposed more onyx and you should be able to find it on both sides of the road and along the drainage ditch. There's another spot north of Mayer. From rt 69 in Mayer turn north on Copper Road opposite from where Central intersects the south side of rt 69. Copper road is a well maintained gravel road. Drive north for .7 mile, then turn left on a rough little road and go .2 mile to the top of the low ridge that parallels the west side of Copper rd. The onyx is at the north end of the ridge. Hope that helps you out buddy! Do you know if the onyx is the calcite or chalcedony variety?

My son had to cut a jawbreaker in half for a science project... so of course the tile saw was the tool of choice. Pretty good banding, crystal filled cavity, and definitely the best smelling thing I've ever cut

I've heard some reports say Saddle Mountain, AZ is great for fire agate and others say it's badly picked over. Anybody have any luck out there recently?

I'm really surprised you find the 225 deficient. I have a 12 inch that has cut agate ad naseum for four very busy years, but I'm using it on a slab saw. Might be how fast you are feeding it. Are your rpm correct for your saw and the blade? I know the saw isn't great, but it's what I can afford. It's rated at 3800 RPM. I've tried slowing it down with a variable speed controller, but that didn't have any effect that I noticed. I don't know what the best RPM for that blade is. Open to suggestions. Thanks.
