rockjunquie my cabs are all freeforms and not up to par with some of these on here. Smithing one of mine might be quite a challenge...if there's an odd number knock me off the list, please. And Mike, your cabs are great! Like Tela said, get an even girdle on it and you are golden!

opalpyrexia are you still in as a cabber or do you want to solder a piece?
I'm willing to be a silversmith. Are cabber/smith teams able to collaborate/communicate during the process? (I'm really not interested in soldering up a gigantic cab. ) I’ll ditto what Gary said about a gigantic cab. I’m glad we will get to collaborate so that hopefully won’t be an issue. Should be fun!

If it would help to get this going, and smiths can play, I'd be in as a smith.

That’s a beautiful pendant Gary, and as always, your work is amazing. I really only dabble in selling on-line, so take this with a grain of salt. It’s just the way I roll. I refuse to edit my pictures, other than cropping them. I’ll literally take hundreds and keep only those that represent how the piece really looks to my eye. If I have a nice cloudy day, I run out and click away. To me it’s a bit of a cheat if I edit something. But that’s only my opinion, an no criticism or critique to anyone at all. That’s a gorgeous piece and I hope to someday be brave enough to try opal.

We've come across it slabbing at 6 mm, so it doesn't have to be too thin. Now if you want to see iris (if it's in there), then it needs to be really thin. Thanks for the tips Robin. I’ll definitely have a look at them tomorrow and see what I can find!

It's called turtleback if it looks like the middle of this. Usually needs to be back lit to see it.
Oh wow! How thin does it need to be to see that pattern if it’s there? Thinner than 1/4”? That’s a beautiful effect.

I’ve had the same experience with Montana. Lots of grades. But if you cut the clear stuff thin it gets cool rainbow-like patterns in it. ETA: That’s a super cool thorny rambling brambles. I’ll try that Evan...I have seen some pictures that look way cool.

Thanks Robin! I was 0 for 4 until I cut into this one! Don't forget to check your other ho-hum slabs to make sure they're not turtle back. Ok I’m going to show my ignorance here, but what’s turtle back? 😬

What an absolutely gorgeous cab! It does take going through a lot of Montanas in order to find some good patterns, but you really knocked that one out of the park! Thanks Robin! I was 0 for 4 until I cut into this one!

I’ve been sitting on some Montana agate rough for nearly a year, but some recent posts of beautiful Montana agate cabs finally got me to cut some of it up today. A lot of duds, but this little end cut was so interesting, I had to play!
