Thanks for the pictures and descriptions Paul. The inside curves you put on your cabs are truly elegant and pleasant to the eye. I really dislike doing them because I struggle with the girdle on the inside curve being a bit higher than the rest of the cab. You make it look easy!

Well darn, that stinks. I’m glad you don’t have too much of it left!

Do you happen to have a proper triangle-shaped bail? Would really perfect the piece, balance it out more and make it look more complete. Lovely either way though! You know, I put a ring on it because I was trying to sorta match the earrings without being too matchy-matchy. But something did seem out of balance to my eye and I think you are right about a triangle bail. If I had it to do over again, I’d have gone that route for sure. But the person I made it for loved it as is, so it’s on its way to her!

Aww! Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! I spent a good part of last week in the hospital with multiple pulmonary embolisms from a clot that broke loose from my leg. I’m happy to just be here this year for my birthday. Thank you all for the notes here, I truly appreciate it!

John, that is a spectacular design choice on the pendant! Once again, stone and metalwork both look great! Thanks for tagging me on this. It gives me something to strive towards! I’ll look forward to seeing your work with the kaleidoscope! Very light touch. It’s soft.

Here’s what I came up with for the pendant that goes with the earrings I made yesterday. jasoninsd

No room for errors on that one! I haven't done a lot of splits. I got lucky with the ones I have done. Good job! Halfway in I was thinking to myself “what have I done? This could go south really fast”. Thankfully I got lucky!

Well done! Believe it or not, my favorite part, the part my eye is drawn to, is the top- the way the "bail" is attached. It looks like you just cut that out of the metal it is so perfect. Thanks Tela! I’ve been doing that on some pieces lately, and I’m liking the line it creates.

While I was slabbing and smithing today, I also did this guy. It was from a thick slab, maybe a touch under .5”, and it seemed wasteful to make one high dome cab showing this pattern, so I split the preform, and will have two low domes. Here’s half of it. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll do the other piece.

Those are really beautiful! I like the texturing, too. Gold balls? Thanks Gary! I’m too cheap to work with gold 😂, maybe someday. For now, I’m just using brass that I ball up and polish. I think it adds a nice look, but very inexpensively.

Heck yes I wanted to see these! Beautiful earrings in and of themselves, but way to highlight that stone! I'm dying to see the pendant once you get it done. I got my slab earlier this week and the seller added another piece in with the one I bought. I thought that was a nice touch. I haven't gotten the nerve to start working this stuff yet. I want a few more dozen cabs under my belt before I attempt to use the slab I got. Again, I'll be watching for that pendant! You’ll have no problems at all cutting this material, based on your work that I’ve been seeing in the cabochons section!

Got these done today, while the slab saw was going. It was about 65 today here in northern Colorado and it felt wonderful to be in the shop! jasoninsd I thought you might like to see these. I have a sort of matching pendant to make too, maybe tomorrow.

hi Robin, yes, to my eye that is about the actual color of it. No worries! I hope you find what you need 🤞 Hi Robin. I picked this up a couple years ago out collecting. I haven’t cut it because it looks to be just too plain brown! But you are welcome to it if you’d like. Background is an oak table for color comparison. John, is the top the actual color? It may be too orangy if it is. Thanks for the post!
ETA: I think I need to clarify. If the stone is brown like the color at the bottom of the picture on the side, that would work, I think. Can you take a picture of the side? Sorry I'm being a pain.
